Do you agree a header for Black Mumsnetters threads would be helpful.

This really helpful and well put post was made in a recent thread. I hope the poster doesn’t mind it being quoted.

Just in case this thread pops up in “Active”. This is a contribution to the Black Mumsnetters board which was established to be a safe space for black women and allies to discuss issues of interest black women, from racism to African history, from black hair care to culture-specific issues in relationships. If you feel triggered, nothing here is an attack on you. I would hate for a thread centering black experience to be hijacked so that it ends about centering those who may have hurt feelings because this discussion may be uncomfortable for them. Thank you!

Could this or something similar be a sticky header MN?

A sticky could be a very good idea.

Blundering into BMN does happen, this could reduce white posters getting all het up about not being centred all the blardy time.

So a yes from me (I am aware as a white woman that I am inserting myself into a black space)

samosamo · 13/05/2021 21:13

Yes please. I no longer post there because I just can't stand it

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 13/05/2021 21:16

Would it be better if it didn't pop up at all in active, as some boards don't?

Gothichouse40 · 13/05/2021 21:22

Something would as I commented on the Black Mumsnetters board by mistake. I did apologise, but I really couldn't tell that it was a safe space for black people.

lakesidelife · 13/05/2021 21:30

I also made that mistake once.
But it is pretty common to read the key post and then comment so I'm not sure a header would work.
Keeping boards you only want one group to post on out of active might be the easiest solution.
I think some other boards do this?

SionnachRua · 13/05/2021 21:34

I agree with it but I think some posters would just waltz on by. Some have a real issue with BMN and I've seen far too many stick their oar in on BMN topics that aren't aimed at them.

Also just to say, my comment isn't aimed at people like this Smile Genuine mistakes are one thing but I think some posters have it out for BMN and resent it existing. Those are the ones who'll ignore thread headers. But headers would still be great for everyone else.
StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/05/2021 21:39

Good idea.

PonDeReplay · 13/05/2021 21:41

As someone who posts occasionally, I like the idea of a sticky header as suggested by OP.

I agree it won't stop the haters. Accidental posters and valid contributions from other parts of MN, are not an issue to us on there.

The irony here being that the OP means well, I'm sure, but is herself not a Black Mumsnetter (according to a post of hers on BMN).

Surely, have the discussion first with Black Mumsnetters in BMN before a decision on this is made one way or the other?
