What happens when a thread is deleted?

I thought if you'd posted on it then you received a deletion message? I can't find a thread I was on so I assume it has been deleted but I haven't received an email.

Which thread was it? Tons have been deleted lately.

Ah, it's back in my Threads I'm On with a deletion message. It just completely disappeared for a while, which I thought was odd. I've never been on a thread interesting enough to be deleted before!

It was the Monsoon dress/model thread.

Tip: You can actually read the final few comments in a deleted thread if you have the url saved in your history. When you click on it you normally see the deletion message. Copy the url and paste into Google Chrome. Then type cache: in the address bar before http without any spaces. So the line starts with "cache:" To go on different pages, change the page number manually at the end.
