Where have all the replies gone?

I posted a thread a while back on the SEN board asking for advice about my DS and school. I had lots of really helpful advice and replies. I've just gone back to the thread to review the advice and update on how things have change since and all posts, including my own, have disappeared apart from the original 2 posts. What's happened? Can they be reinstated as I can't remember all of the advice I was given.

Quite possibly.

I didn't realise I'd posted it twice and I didn't know they got deleted after 90 days. What a numpty. DS obviously doesn't get his brains from me.

He's going for an EEG on Monday. I'm dreading it as I have to keep him up half the night as they want him to sleep during the test. That'll be fun, keeping him awake in the car on the way.

We've just got feedback from an educational psychologist who spent a full day assessing and watching him at school. She thinks his absences are because he's bored stupid but his nature is to just switch off rather than kick off. He's just turned 8 and she says his intellectual level is 16-17. Although his emotional level is around 5. So his teachers are going to have fun. How do you effectively teach a young adult mind in a child who still only a little boy?

The Ed Psych should be providing strategies in their report.

Rather than accelerating ahead school need to look sideways. For example, in maths look at UKMT questions and Nrich. They also need to put much more focus on developing social skills. Has DS seen a SALT and OT?

I have an 11y/o DS who is academically able (although not quite to the same extent) but socially and emotionally half his age. He couldn't cope in school. In my opinion there is little point being academically able if you can't function in everyday life.

She did give some strategies but, to be honest, I didn't quite understand what she meant. She said she'd run through them all with the school and then it's up to the school to decide how to deal with it. She was very clear though that here in Sweden a child with special needs has the same legal entitlement to support to meet those needs regardless of which side of the curve they fall.

One of the things she recommends that I did understand is that he has 1 to 1 support from a teacher able to meet his intellectual ability. Not continuously, just for maybe 10 minutes a day or even a week. So he can have a conversation where he gets to talk about a topic that interests him at the level he's at. She said he needs to feel heard so he doesn't keep retreating back into his own world. On the one hand it makes me laugh thinking about who'll draw the short straw. But on the other it's sad that he's disengaging from the real world because he's quietly screaming and nobody is hearing him.
