'This user is currently unable to receive PMs'

I tried to message a couple of people yesterday. One message was delivered without any problems. The other won't send, and I get an error message saying: 'Sorry, we can't deliver your PM. This user is currently unable to receive PMs'.

Haven't come across this before and was wondering why it happened. Might it be to do with the other user's settings / full inbox / some other reason? Or are things just playing up at my end?

Seems unlikely. I've never messaged them or had any remotely negative contact. Wonder if MNHQ check this board much - I posted here because I thought they might and would know what that error message means.

You can set your account up to have no PMs at all IIRC
