Petitions

@mumsnet . Please can petitions relating to the feminist boards be listed there. They are impossible to find currently as they do not show up on the main list and are missing traffic. Thanks

all petitions go in the petition topic. imagine if they didn't mn would be full of them.

Thecatonthemat · 16/04/2021 09:53

samcro then there should at lest be a category in the index visible...which it is not currently

its not an easy topic to find, under classified!!
I must have it hidden.

stumbledin · 17/04/2021 23:27

The point is petitions should go in the thread where is is more relevant.

Nobody in their right mind would think petitions are a "classified" or even that there is a classified (hidden away) when there is a very obvious sales section.

Its illogical. I had a thread moved because it was about a sucessful petition and the Government response was to ask people to complete a survey. And MNHQ moved it to petitions because there was a link to the petition to explain what it was all about. Just ridiculous.

And if for some reason MNHQ want petitions to be a stand alone category then I think there should be a community / social engagement section where charities for instance could go.

Its just beyond frustrating. And catergory that has more sections than appear in the Talk Index should be split, or the layout of the index changed so you dont have the ridiculous "more ... " but has all sections are displayed.

Thelnebriati · 18/04/2021 22:09

Do threads get moved if someone other than OP posts a link to a petition?

stumbledin · 18/04/2021 23:17

Yes - any petition link. Has been pointed out that MNHQ could just delete that one message.

Not sure why petitions aren't seen to be part of whatever issue or topic.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/05/2021 08:40

I've asked before, quite a few times.

I can understand why MN needs to guard against people spamming petition links all over the place, but I don't see why one thread pertaining to a petition relevant to the board it was placed on can't be tolerated. MNHQ does, of course, sometimes include petition links in its own campaign threads.

This surely doesn't just affect FWR - there are petitions relating to education, SN, road safety etc etc which get lost in the tumbleweed of the petitions board. It might be good if links to petitions were copied there, and that it was made easier to find, so that members could find petitions on all sorts of things more easily, and for petitions which don't have an obvious home.

I can find the petitions board easily enough because I know it's there, somewhere. Many people have no idea, until a thread gets bumped enough to show up in active (and then may not note the board name). I can't believe MNHQ really wants the petitions to be displayed with about the same accessibility as Vogon planning applications.

"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

Hi - thanks for this suggestion which will be passed on. Flowers

I think either petitions go in 'petitions' (my preference) or any petition goes anywhere (no special arrangements for one topic on this)

Certainly no special arrangements for one subject. Personally I'm as annoyed by petitions in the other categories I mentioned being effectively buried as I am about the FWR ones.
