Can advanced search results be chronological?

It's really annoying when you're trying to find a particular thread and the results are all jumbled up. If the most recent threads were at the top it would be so much easier.

Agreed

mogloveseggs · 05/03/2021 13:39

Definitely agree

poorbuthappy · 05/03/2021 13:39

God yes, This would be so helpful!

ShowOfHands · 05/03/2021 13:39

Ohhhh yes.

Deadringer · 05/03/2021 13:46

Absolutely. I usually get results for years ago when i am looking for a thread and it's really annoying.

Pinkywoo · 05/03/2021 14:05

Glad it's not just me!

WithIcePlease · 05/03/2021 14:19

Completely agree
Sometimes I have 3 decent words from a thread title - like 'great' 'nars' and 'peach' as an example, not and the or but - and still get 2012 as top hit when I know it was active yesterday

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 05/03/2021 14:27

Have always thought this too!

ExcusesAndAccusations · 05/03/2021 14:30

Quite agree. I do like having it sorted by topic, but topic then date would be good, or give us the choice to sort by date or topic or alphabetical by thread title.

brokenkettle · 05/03/2021 14:34

Try googling whatever it is you're looking for and stick "Mumsnet" in the search. Far less frustrating!

ShakespearesSisters · 05/03/2021 14:39

Oh definitely, I still use the function just in case what I'm actually looking for is in the first few scrolls. Never is. Time/date order would be so much better.

Pinkywoo · 06/03/2021 06:43

Any chance of this @MNHQ?

OP posts:
WhatTheActualFreshHell · 06/03/2021 06:46

This would be great!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/03/2021 08:29

Agreed, would be much better

cariadlet · 06/03/2021 08:37

Completely agree. On the website, you can go to a topic and scroll through a couple of pages to find the thread that you're looking for but that doesn't work with the app so you have to use the search and it's so frustrating when the results are dominated by threads from years ago.

LouMumsnet · 06/03/2021 11:27

Thanks for flagging this up to us - we'll certainly raise it at MNHQ. Smile

Pinkywoo · 06/03/2021 13:37

Great thanks, it would make using the search function so much easier!

backinthespareroom · 06/03/2021 14:26

Agree! Particularly if you're Paying for Mumsnet

Paprilka701 · 06/03/2021 14:27

Definitely yes! I thought it was me doing something wrong! Why on earth wouldn't it be in chronological order?

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2021 14:28

Yes please

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2021 14:30

People have been asking for this since I joined 10 years ago

I'm not sure why it's so difficult? 🤷‍♀️

TyneTeas · 06/03/2021 14:36

Agree it would be useful

You can set a date range when doing searches though, which is useful when looking for recent posts

Same4Walls · 06/03/2021 14:41

I was just thinking something similar. I lurked for years before joining and it has been brought up repeatedly since I first started using the site, along with the much fabled edit button. I'd love to be proven wrong but I suspect people will still be asking for both 10 years from now.
Pinkywoo · 12/03/2021 09:07

Any update @MNHQ? I've just been trying to find a particular thread and ones from 2008 were coming up. People really shouldn't have to use Google to find something (as a pp says) when there is a search function!

@SilverySurfer @Batshittery, fancy an advanced search reunion?! Grin
