I don't know if this is the case with all search terms, but it seems to be with searching for a specific user - if the post isn't on page one of the conversation, you just get dumped on the first page, and have to manually search through subsequent pages to find the post you're looking for. I know I could customise so that I get unlimited posts on a page, but I quite like limiting the number of posts. Is it possible to get the search to take you straight to the relevant post, regardless of where it is in a conversation?
