........where the OP can post an update on their own thread for example a few months later and also add a note to the top of the initial opening post to say ‘please see update’. Or ‘this thread has been updated - please read update before commenting’ or something along those lines.

My reason for asking is because many poster’s (including myself) and the OP’s get so frustrated when people respond without reading beyond the first post. Not noticing that the thread has moved on hugely from that time or checking if it is an older thread or not. This often happens on threads with vulnerable OP’s who are in abusive relationships and initially ask for advice and then decide to LTB. But when the OP updates later on many poster’s are still responding to the initial post, often with unhelpful and sometimes nasty remarks. Leaving the OP and other poster’s continually saying ‘RTFT’ over and over and over again.

I agree with you. It's up there with 'cancel the cheque' isn't it?

Ideally I think the op is best off starting a new thread and linking the old one if possible.

But yes I've been on2/3 threads today where op has made an amazing update and people still come on and start yelling about LTB

There used to be a zombie warning didn't there? What happened to that?

BorisStopOffendingYourBarber · 04/01/2021 00:17

@barebetty - Thank you for responding, I’m glad it’s not just me. I too have seen several threads recently exactly as you say where the OP has made some really brave and life changing decisions and moved on. But loads of people are posting completely irrelevant ‘advice’ because they don’t RTFT.

You are right, starting a new thread might be the simplest option and linking to the old one but not everyone thinks of doing it that way.

I didn’t know about the zombie warning, that also sounds like a good idea.

But there is the function that anyone can see all of OPs post so readers can see what has progressed without reading every page.
You can make people RTFT( unfortunately)

BorisStopOffendingYourBarber · 04/01/2021 00:44

@AlCalavicci - I know exactly what you mean, I wish most people would use the ‘read all OP’s’ post function. But so many people don’t go beyond the first post. My suggestions can’t make people RTFT but it might help, that’s my thought process anyway.

How do you do that as I often have to scroll through the whole thread to see OP updates?

BorisStopOffendingYourBarber · 04/01/2021 01:52

@nutmegsteddytoes - Please see my attachment showing you how to see all of OP’s updates.👍🏽

Hi OP

What a great suggestion - thanks for raising it with us.
We'll pass it over to our developers and have a chat about it, so do keep an eye out! (please note - we are exceptionally busy at the moment, so it might not be an instant answer in this case).

BorisStopOffendingYourBarber · 05/01/2021 00:15

@LilyMumsnet - Thank you for passing on the suggestion.

For now, a suggestion - the OP could ask MNHQ to amend the title (eg add ' - UPDATE - I've LTB!'), that's something that's already doable (You just report your own thread to ask)

nutmegsteddytoes · 05/01/2021 20:33

Thank you Boris you're a star!
As I read MN on my phone I couldn't find that ,but have found the solution 👍
