Kirklees sex abuse - thread deletion?

Sunscreeneveryday · 11/12/2020 12:36

Why was the thread on the arrest of 32 men for sexually abusing 8 girls deleted from feminism chat last night?

The message said something about generalisations but can you provide more specific information on how this line was crossed?

This is a very relevant topic to FWR, especially considering the sex abuse ring in Rochdale continued for years because people were continually silenced. It doesn't seem appropriate for this topic to be shut down without being given some guidelines on how this topic can be discussed, without the risk of sudden deletion.

Hi @Sunscreeneveryday thanks for your post. Please drop us a line at: [email protected] and we'll see if we can help. Flowers

Agree with the OP
I would like more guidance on what is allowed to be discussed about whats happening in the area of the north England where I live.

LastTrainEast · 12/12/2020 15:01

soniamumsnet It would probably be best if any special guidelines for this subject were posted here as everyone needs to know the limitations don't they.

GoldfishParade · 12/12/2020 15:04

Why is this being discussed off the record? I'd like to know why you deleted this thread too

TheQueef · 12/12/2020 15:04

Aye it'd be useful to know.

KimMumsnet · 12/12/2020 16:54

Afternoon, all.
We understand that you and other posters wish to discuss this case, which has been reported in the press, and we're happy for you to do so as long as everyone posts within our Talk Guidelines. Unfortunately, on that particular thread, which was relatively short, there were just too many posts warranting deletion for us to allow it to continue.

I was on the thread and there were a few posts that generalised the whole Asian community in a negative way. I thought it was only going to be a short time before It started getting nasty. Some people just can't resist having a go at a whole community for the actions of some of them. The police are the problem. They just don't give a shit about women and girls.

GoldfishParade · 12/12/2020 17:02

@flashbac
Yes, the police are the problem, not the rapists Hmm

flashbac · 12/12/2020 17:05

Did I explicitly say that? The rapists for away with it knowing the police didn't give a shit.

flashbac · 12/12/2020 17:07

Got*
And carried on, knowing they could do so without prosecution. I'm glad something is being done about it now. Too bad racists are busy trying to derail trials.

alexdgr8 · 12/12/2020 17:08

it is very important not to publish anything that may be deemed to be prejudicial to the judicial process.
once a person has been arrested, there are very strict rules about what can be published.
these forums are regarded as a form of publishing.
if a defendant can plead that something has been published that is prejudicial, that they cannot get a fair trial, then they may not be tried at all.
please see the contempt of court act, strict liability rule.

Greengrasshills · 12/12/2020 17:10

Yes, you did say that. You said the polce were the problem.

JustLikeStitch · 12/12/2020 17:19

@flashbac tbh I’d say pedophiles were the problem, not the police. You know, cause it’s the pedophiles that messed with the kids?

JustLikeStitch · 12/12/2020 17:20

@alexdgr8 that’s an important point (though I’d argue those men don’t deserve a fair trial, let alone any trial. Single shot is all they deserve.)

GoldfishParade · 12/12/2020 19:27

@flashbac
Yeah, you did say that. Embarrassing.
