Why the heck, why?

I turned off emails to let me know someone had mentioned me as I was getting a lot. Just seen 14 messages in my in box and thought I'd been spammed.

MNHQ believe me, there are better things to be sending your time on than this!!

OP posts:

I agree
Really annoying.
Is there a way to turn them off?

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2020 14:45

I hope we can turn them off. Totally unnecessary.

BeaMends · 10/11/2020 14:50

I had loads of the things when I logged on today. What's the point? I'm already watching any threads I might be interested in returning to.

diddl · 10/11/2020 15:17

Yes!
I thought that I had either been spammed or become popular!!

Can't see the point of it & want to be able to turn it off!

samsays345 · 10/11/2020 15:22

I love it.

soniamumsnet · 10/11/2020 15:24

Hi - thanks for the reports. We've answered a few questions about this here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4074206-How-to-view-your-Mumsnet-notifications Flowers

PearPickingPorky · 10/11/2020 15:50

It's AWFUL, HQ.

How do we turn it off?

Harmarsuperstar · 10/11/2020 15:53

Ha, I thought I'd suddenly become amazingly popular Grin

Harmarsuperstar · 10/11/2020 15:53

But yes, it's annoying

soniamumsnet · 10/11/2020 16:10

Hi @PearPickingPorky you are able to turn off email notifications by going to your talk preferences www.mumsnet.com/Talk?call=Preferences here. At the moment you cannot turn off the feed notifications.

OMG I hadn’t noticed this but I had over 21 notifications 🙈. Some just for threads that I’ve posted on. How is this useful?

BeaMends · 10/11/2020 17:40

Oh well, if you can't turn them off, I will just completely ignore them.
Port1aCastis · 10/11/2020 17:43

I thought I had 8 PMs and was being stalked Halloween Grin
oh whoopee I've now got 9!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/11/2020 18:02

I too thought I'd been spammed.

I may get used to it, I use it in other fora, but it does feel odd...

TopCatlivedinadustbin · 10/11/2020 18:03

Make them stop!!!

I don't see what use they are. I don't care if 12 people have posted on a thread I'm watching.

Nefbachmorf · 10/11/2020 19:38

Posted on the other thread and posting here too, to say I don't like it and want the opportunity to disable it. It's annoying!

NotTerfNorCis · 10/11/2020 21:46

Ha yes I logged in this afternoon and saw an orange '17' over my profile.... first reaction was omg why are so many people mailing?? Hope I've managed to turn that off now.

Whatwouldscullydo · 10/11/2020 22:01

Oh god not just me then. I want them off now.. how...

NotTerfNorCis · 10/11/2020 22:36

Ok we aren't able to switch them off.

Any chance this can be configurable? Every time I look I see more notifications and I can't know if it's mail (worth looking at) or new posts on a thread (not worth looking at).

LeGrandBleu · 11/11/2020 00:09

Not useful to you at all, but it will increase traffic and clicks (and possibly you staying longer on MN) and offer a financial advantage to MN. You are being used. Sorry
