@ notifications repeated if a post is quoted

If someone has done an @ for you in a post to notify you, and then other people quote that post, you can end up with umpteen more notifications.
This is quite annoying - it seems like something that should be possible to stop from happening when the quote function is used (not c&p'd snippets, I doubt that's tractable).
