Sound on adverts stopping radio app

I listen to music, radio and podcasts on my phone using various apps. They play happily in the background. But an advert on the active talk page for BBC sounds stops my audio. Like a video playing on a website would. This is super annoying. I'm not sure if it a thing with my phone? But still I can't be th only one?
