Is there a way to hide a thread without opening it?

Sometimes I find a thread title on its own is quite triggering and I want to hide the thread, but in order to do that I need to open the thread and I’m worried that if I do I’ll see a picture that will make me feel worse. For example, there was a thread in AIBU the other day about a photo of disgusting dead rat. I wanted to hide the thread but I didn’t want to open it and see the photo of the rat.

Is there a way on the mobile desktop site to hide threads without opening them? If not, would MN consider adding this feature?

Thanks!

Hi OP

There isn't a way to hide threads without opening them, we're afraid, but we'll certainly discuss this as an option (and remember - you can hide topics). Flowers

Er, I can hide threads without opening them.

TheHighestSardine · 18/09/2020 18:18

If you're using a computer and web browser, you can change the size of the web browser window to just tall enough to see the "hide this thread" button when you click through? Thankfully MN put it right at the top.

I'm on chrome which might be why. Could you share how you do it? Flowers
GunsAndShips · 18/09/2020 18:41

I'm on Chrome too 😊

I click on the three dots next to the thread title and click on hide.

ChizzleMeNizzle · 18/09/2020 18:42

Click the 3 vertical dots next to the post title, there's only one option, which is "hide".

GunsAndShips · 18/09/2020 18:43

Maybe I don't use the desktop version though! I just access it on a mobile using chrome. Never used the app.

I have the option to watch or hide the thread.

Interesting. No three-dots on Firefox or Safari (both Mac).

RunningWaterfall · 19/09/2020 00:00

I would like this feature as well - only ever use the mobile desktop site on Safari and it would be really useful.

Yep no dots on Safari. I would really appreciate being able to hide a thread without opening it.
