MNHQ is it possible for thread starters to have the option to change their thread titles please?

It would be ded useful in loads of stuff.

For instance, the spider thread that was titled "Oh My F**king God" - that offended loads of people and the poster was very very apologetic. I'll bet she would have changed the title if she could and then it wouldn't have kept popping up in active convos, same with some of the ante-natal threads that had dodgy titles.

Also, sometimes I start a thread and wish I'd done a different title, but I'd have to do a new thread if I wanted to change it, wouldn't it just be better if I could edit the title and change it?

So is it possible then?

I'm only talking about changing the title, not the content. Anyone searching for that thread could be redirected to the new one and it could also show up in the 'threads you're on' bit under it's new name, so no-one would get lost.

Noooooooooooo - then threads I avoid because I've opened them once and they were DULL as fuck - I might open them again and have to stab my eyes out with a grapefruit spoon.

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 22:24

It would have to be more of a gouge as opposed to a stab with a grapefruit spoon. Still I see your point and whole heartedly agree.

welliemum · 03/10/2007 22:25

I would definitely go for this because for some reason I always make stupid grammar/typing mistakes in thread titles, which will now taunt me for the rest of my life.

welliemum · 03/10/2007 22:26

depends how sharp the spoon is though

[gets interested]

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/10/2007 22:27

No no no no no NO.

gibberish · 03/10/2007 22:27

It would be handy though if you had started a thread then found out that you had erroneously ommitted an apostrophe in the title Oh the humiliation!

MorticiasMother · 03/10/2007 22:29

But you wouldn't necessarily click on it twice as it would still show up in red if you'd already clicked on it, and you could see it in your 'threads I'm on' bit.

Anyway so what if you see it twice? It would stop all these arguments about thread titles being offensive wouldn't it?

What if I started a thread titled "Oh, my fucking GOD, I hate

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 22:31

pmsl hunker

No no no to editing of any sort.

Just start the new thread and link from the old one...it'll soon drop out of active convos/threads I'm on.

daisyandbabybootoo · 03/10/2007 22:31

at your first post....

MorticiasMother · 03/10/2007 22:32

That would be very, erm, interesting!

welliemum · 03/10/2007 22:38

I do see Hunker's point....

Maybe edited titles could be labelled as such, or the editing appear in a different colour so you'd know it wasn't a new thread?

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 22:39

It could get complicated.

Habbibu · 03/10/2007 22:42

Hunker, if you started a thread asking where you could buy baby pasta, I do believe the sky would fall in. And get you with your fancy spoons. For the purposes of this thread, I'd prefer no changes. I'm sufficiently easily confused as it is.

LadyMuck · 03/10/2007 22:45

Perhaps what is needed is some warning in bold and big letters when starting a new conversation: "What you type in this box will be prejudicial to the rest of the thread. You are making your first impression on this topic. This one statement could remain in active conversations for hours, possibly even days if you get it wrong. Thread carefully, and stop and read what you have written."

fangsandflash · 03/10/2007 22:47

I think you should make hunker responsible for changing thread titles to whatever she pleases

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/10/2007 22:51

no changes

nappyaddict · 17/10/2007 20:05

the only place i would want to be able to edit stuff is in for sale/wanted.
