Apologies for being really thick here, but I've just noticed the instructions for adding a link are in bold - so does that mean we type the link in bold? And if so - how do you do that? Just hightlight it once its done?
TIA,
Dunce xx

have a go turquoise, if I can do it, anyone can!!!!!

turquoise · 14/10/2004 16:13

I can't! I just tried and it didn't work
Did you bold it? How?

OP posts:
Amfs · 14/10/2004 16:14

you don't bold it

you just type it like it says too

WigWamBam · 14/10/2004 16:15

You don't bold it.
Type a forward slash then the word link then { and the web page address then another forward slash, the description as you want it to appear on the message then }

bundle · 14/10/2004 16:18

i just highlight and copy the linky bit from the right hand side of the page onto the bit i'm posting, and insert the url by cutting/pasting too

Amfs · 14/10/2004 16:19

you need the http:\ part in the site address and if there's an / at the end of the address you need to replace it with an \

I always find it easier to open the page and copy the url over

turquoise · 14/10/2004 16:20

Thanks amfs. Try again.

this is \link{http://members.ozemail.com.au/~jriddler/dick.html#3}nice

OP posts:
turquoise · 14/10/2004 16:22

lawd i'm thick.
I hadn;t seen all those other replies - going to keep trying with that advice! I have tried just to cuat and paste in the past though, failing as usual.
Btw i didn't particularly have a reason for that link, it's just links in general.

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 14/10/2004 16:24

forwardslash link then{http://members.ozemail.com.au/~jriddler\dick.html#3nice}

Amfs · 14/10/2004 16:24

no .. you NEED to have a description as well so at the end of the URL before the } you need to put in a \ followed by what you want to call it ..

eg

\click here}

WigWamBam · 14/10/2004 16:25

Sorry, I mean backslash don't I

Bunglie · 14/10/2004 16:25

is this what you wanted HERE

I can't see where you went wrong but will look again!

Amfs · 14/10/2004 16:25

\ link{http://members.ozemail.com.au/~jriddler/dick.html#3\click here

then you do the squirly bracket thing to close it

like this

turquoise · 14/10/2004 16:30

click here

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou all very much.

OP posts:
Bunglie · 14/10/2004 16:32

OK,
TYPE ''
TYPE 'Link'
TYPE '{'
TYPE (or cut and paste) 'members.ozemail.com.au/~jriddler/dick.html#3'
TYPE ''
TYPE 'here' (or your own words)
TYPE '}'

And you've done it, but I have probably confused you more than ever so I shall go...goodluck!

Bunglie · 14/10/2004 16:33

Turquoise

unicorn · 14/10/2004 16:34

kalex · 14/10/2004 16:34

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=39746/here}

kalex · 14/10/2004 16:35

Well that worked NOT

Amfs · 14/10/2004 16:36

kalex .. that's a forward slash before the word here not a backslash

you need a backslash \

turquoise · 14/10/2004 16:36

Thanks Bunglie!
I love mumsnet - I consider that a virtual tutorial and feel that I've achieved something today
And maybe some of you will have enjoyed that link to Sean Bean looking rather marvellous.
