Or is the person you’re quote-replying to notified anyway?

Am just testing this for you, to be absolutely sure... Smile

Actually I do know the answer to this. And the answer is no - people aren't automatically notified if someone quote-replies to them.

The fact is, not everyone will want the person they're quoting to receive an @ notification. They may be right there on the thread, in which case they don't need to be notified. Or it could be that someone's quoting a post but not wanting any direct response, in which case it would be a bit annoying if there was an automatic notification.

So it'll have to be a manual @ if you want to get someone's attention, we're afraid. Sorry! Flowers

oh, OK - that makes sense - thanks, Dawn Smile

I'll try to remember to @ them when I do want them to know it's there.

Why not have it as an option that can be turned off if you dont want it?

Even if it doesnt need a direct response, i would like to know if someone is agreeing or adding to a point i may have made.

There are lots of settings that can be turned of on MN (including being notified for a @ tag if im not mistaken??) So not sure why this cant be one of them.

Hi again Smile

Just letting you know that as there's now another thread with several more of you asking for this feature, we've gone back to our Tech team who've said they've added this to their product suggestions list (with the option to turn the @ notifications on or off for quoted posts, as per other @ notifications).

We'll be back with more info as soon as we can. Brew

I must admit I've only used @ about twice since it was introduced, I haven't used quote much either, I'm so in the habit of bolding the name, copying and pasting. I turned my own @ notifications off too as I'm on some chatty threads and don't want an email everyte someone replies to me. So long as its optional and can be turned off (or opted into) it seems reasonable though.

EasilyDelighted · 25/07/2020 12:07

Could you make the notification like an app notification, or in your MN inbox rather than sending an email? I might be more inclined to opt back in to @ if that were the case.

We've added this request to the Tech suggestion list. Smile
