New in the the iOS Talk app: post quoting and improved navigation

For those of you using iOS devices - we've just released another version of the iOS Talk app, including:

Quote posting - we've introduced the popular web feature in the app, you can now quote another post in your reply by swiping the post and selecting 'Quote'.
Easy access to threads in a topic - when a thread is open, you can select its' topic to easily view the list of threads in that topic.
Also - some other minor fixes and improvements.

@TimMumsnet thanks for this - I'm now using the most recent version as my iphone autoupdates and I can see the quote function, very cool! The tap to go to topic works great as well.

Weird glitch - the "I'm On" threads don't match the order showing on the website as "most recently updated" and one particular thread doesn't appear at all (the Frugal Foodies thread in Chat which I know has updated more recently than many of the threads showing in "I'm On"). I've logged out and logged back in again but no luck.

This isn't a new thing, I've noticed it for a while but thought when you guys released a new version it would patch this but it doesn't seem to have.

Ok thanks for letting us know about the TIO issue, we'll look into it.

I was wondering if it might be that the title is too long for the app somehow, since that particular frugal foodies thread title is very long. All the TIO titles that do appear on the app are quite short. But that might have nothing to do with it...

Curiouser and curiouser - I can now see on TIO on the app that the thread "A response to JK Rowling" updated 2 mins ago and is on the top of my list. This doesn't appear in the website TIO even though I have it sorted by "most recently active".

I'm definitely using the same username for both, and have logged out and in on both website and app this morning. Website using Chrome on Windows 10. App using up to date iOS version.

Whereas this thread appears top of the TIO list on both the app, and the website.

I love the quoting functionality, but keep hitting it by mistake as it's where bookmark used to be. It's a bit like when you swapped bookmark & report a while back!

@DawnMumsnet - really sorry to sound a bit dense, but I just don't understand the explanation of what "easy access to threads in a topic" means - can you explain further how to actually do it and more about what it is in simple steps please.

A "how to" video would be useful, or even photos.

Apologies @FawnDrench - it's a little difficult to describe, it's basically that you can open the list of threads on a topic by selecting the topic label on a thread.

Only works on my iPad app at the minute, not on my phone one.

But at least I understand what to do!

@TimMumsnet I asked on the Frugal Foodie thread and I'm not the only one who finds that thread doesn't appear in TIO in the iOS app. So it's not just me, thank goodness! I thought I was going mad for a while there.

Just started using the quote function on the iOS app and it's definitely an improvement, but I wish you'd do something about the number of posts being reduced to three dots ... on the Active list when the count goes over 100. It's been like this for months on my iPad, but it doesn't happen on my iPhone.

Hi @Twenty2 thanks for raising this. I know the issue you're referencing, I think it's particularly bad when the text size has been increased on an iPad. I've just fixed it, and it should be released within a week or so. Thanks for your patience!

That's unfortunate! I think the bookmark button is in the same position from the right, I figured that would be less intrusive this way. Would positioning quote on the second from the left make more sense?

@Xiaoxiong we've found the TIO is is probably related to how far back the TIO goes back. Currently there is no limit, but we're thinking of restricting the TIO limit to a threads up to a year old. Do you think that would suffice?

I can only see 22 "threads I'm on" on the desktop, which is just the last few days or so for me.

Is it really unlimited in the app? That does seem a little excessive - surely no one is scrolling back a year, unless they don't post all that much. I'm sure that would be fine!
