Of all times to put a skin lightening advert, mumsnet you have chosen to display one while protests are going on about Black Lives Matter and dealing with racism? This is SO SO SO wrong.

I’m using an iPhone XR, on safari, this advert links to www.organicskinlightener.com/products/organic-skin-lightener website.

No it is nothing to do with my search history either.

Unbelievable. Why is MN advertising this shit? At any time?

NerrSnerr · 04/06/2020 14:29

I don't think these are from MNHQ. The blue triangle in the corner means it is linked to your browsing history doesn't it?

This is what I’m seeing at the moment. Pathetic.

@NerrSnerr I have not been searching for skin lightening.

@LochJessMonster That is just terrible.

Sort it out @MNHQ

Yeah they're from your search history- they're Google's advertisements I believe. You may not have searched skin lightening but something along those lines will have flagged you up as a potential customer. I'm looking for a car, so all of a sudden I'm getting lease deals on Mumsnet.

NerrSnerr · 04/06/2020 14:34

@WhoWhatWheree I'm not saying you have been. Mumsnet didn't place this ad either. It's a targeted ad and something in their algorithm put this one up for you.

Itsmemaggie · 04/06/2020 14:36

@LochJessMonster I also saw that one - disgusting.

LilyMumsnet · 04/06/2020 16:14

Hi all,

We're really sorry about this - just to confirm, they are ad-choice ads, so they don't come directly from us.

We have filters to block this sort of thing but some are clever and use different tags, so they can hide and slip through the net.

We're working to block these now. If possible, whenever this sort of thing happens, can you get us the direct URL to the advert?

You can do this by clicking the advert and copy and pasting the link to the landing page to us, so that we can block it directly. If you do this with mobile data and WiFi turned off, it will load the URL without actually loading the advert.

LilyMumsnet · 04/06/2020 16:36

We've blocked it now. Flowers

BaitandSwitch · 04/06/2020 16:42

Hi MNHQ

I think that's great you've responded and blocked the advert so quickly, thank you. Flowers

@BaitandSwitch

Hi MNHQ

Ah, thanks @BaitandSwitch. Smile

It helps enormously when people are able to post screenshots and links (as they've done here) - we'll always do our best to block any inappropriate ads as soon as we can.

Wrongdissection · 05/06/2020 22:57

I’ve just got this advert this evening. It’s awful,

TitianaTitsling · 05/06/2020 23:02

That's horrific wrong @mnhq can you please get this one blocked too?

LouMumsnet · 06/06/2020 15:28

Thanks so much for flagging this - we're alerting our ad team to it now.

Please do let us know if you see anything like this again won't you? As you say, it's horrific and absolutely unacceptable.
