This is driving me mad! I hate the mumsnet talk app, so I keep a few pages of mumsnet open permanently in my safari on my iPhone. Every time I click on one is Redirects me and opens The talk app instead. Is this something buggy or have they done this to try and make you use the app? It’s driving me mad, I just want to read mumsnet via safari!!!

Hi OP

This is pretty normal with most websites that have apps - could you try disabling it?

Tech · 22/05/2020 21:23

Hi, ThePenIsBlue, one thing you could try: visit google in safari and search for Mumsnet. When you see the links, press one on your phone and hold your finger down. You should see a menu open up with "open in new tab" as one of the options. Click that. That should tell your iphone that in future you want to use safari rather than the app to open mumsnet links.

lilymumsnet well I’ve been accessing this way for years and it’s only started doing this in the last 2 days..... 🧐 🤔.

I will try closing all the windows and then reopening to see if that stops it

Yes, do try that and let us know - we'll be happy to take a look for you if it's an ongoing issue.

Waxlyrically · 24/05/2020 09:22

This has started happening to me over the last few days too. It has an oops something went wrong message once it’s opened the app too? When I close it and go back to Safari it’s all back to normal.

JoMumsnet · 24/05/2020 21:45

Thanks for letting us know, Waxlyrically, and thanks too ThePenIsBlue - we'll raise this with our Tech team to see if anything's changed in the past couple of days which might be causing this.

Sorry, should mention, this will work only if you follow a link to a talk thread. So google "mumsnet talk" and long click and follow that link.

I’ve been having this issue as well. Driving me nuts. Not had any problems before. It’s particularly bad today.

Knittingsavesme · 06/12/2020 17:50

Was this ever resolved, as I have the same problem. It is driving me nuts and has been doing it for a few weeks now. Would deleting the app on my phone solve the problem?

Knittingsavesme · 06/12/2020 18:14

I've deleted the app and Mumsnet is now opening on Safari! I hope it continues to work.
