Fed up with name-changing for a personal thread & being accused of being a troll? There is a way.....

Did you know you can set up a profile for any name which just shows when you joined MN? It doesn't affect your profile for your normal name & anyone who thinks you're a troll/ bored 14 year old boy can check & see you've been a member since 2005 or whatever.

and you know this, how, rusty??

RustyBear · 19/09/2007 20:51

I'm expecting a visit from my brother soon & he takes a great interest in MN, so I'll probably name change for the duration so he doesn't find out my normal name - do you remember I was oxidisedteddy for a while? That was why.
But I want to keep a limited profile, probably with a hint so my friends can guess who I am.
So I thought I'd see if it was possible..

ok, so it was like a scientific experiment? cool !

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 20:59

so how does it work then? as I've always thought that would be useful, not specifically for name changing, but for those that don't want to have afull profile page.

SlightlyMadSweden · 19/09/2007 21:08

YOu just create a profile with your new name. You could just fill in a random box eg. age 10000001 works and then show profile. It automatically shows that you registered in a certain month.

Great idea Rusty

SlightlyMadSweden · 19/09/2007 21:09

You need to select from a dropdown menu that you want to display when you joined.

Minor problem is that if you use the month and year format it could leave you oppen to guessing games as to who you are

RustyBear · 19/09/2007 21:16

I think you can choose just the year if you want.

maybe some 14 yr old boys have been members since 2005 though.

RustyBear · 19/09/2007 21:21

Well, yes that is possible, but if they have kept it up for that long they probably deserve our respect.

On second thoughts that sentence could have been better phrased....

Just write in your profile "I am a namechanging regular, I know about pirate sex, tablecloths etc"

Carmenere · 19/09/2007 21:24

Hey RB what is to stop your brother checking up on you from his computer?

RustyBear · 19/09/2007 21:33

I just want to name change so I can MN while he's in the room - he'll come up & look over my shoulder & see my posting name & then he'll go home & search that name to see what else I've posted. I'll make sure that everything under that name is totally innocuous.
