If the bloke was still up i could tell you, these things are scary arent they? Does it give you any sort of description? Whichever one we use shows what the spywear is trying to do, such as pass on details or dial up premium rate numbers.

JoolsToo · 06/10/2004 23:34

they're tracking cookies - I have to block them every time I click the mouse!

GeorginaA · 07/10/2004 00:00

It's to do with the advert banner they have at the top of mumsnet - as joolstoo has said they track where you've been what pages you view etc. If spybot has identified them and removed them, then don't worry

GeorginaA · 07/10/2004 00:00

removed or prevented them from being installed I should have said.

are they diferent from other cookies then? normally I get a privacy alert (windows)asking if I want to allow or block cookies, but it doesn't seem to detect these ones.

Dunno, but those who use Firefox rather than IE might want to go to Tools>Options>Privacy>Cookies and tick the check box which only allows cookies from the originating site. That should block them nicely

There might be an equivalent in IE, I'm just not sure where it is.
