Report/bookmark buttons switching places?

Andylion · 06/04/2020 17:48

I just tried to bookmark a thread by tapping on the innermost button, as I always do, and instead the report window opened.

Have they switched places or am I going mad? This happened on the app on my iPad, but I am posting this using Safari as the app wouldn’t let me post a screenshot to illustrate my question.

Report/bookmark buttons switching places?

Please put them back. Switching them around doesn't create extra space, just makes your job harder as plenty of mistakenly reported posts flood in.

I'm sorry I keep reporting things. Muscle memory, however.

Pashazade · 08/04/2020 17:55

Please switch them back it is driving me barmy!

user1496146479 · 08/04/2020 22:54

Switch them back!

LockedInMadness · 09/04/2020 12:30

All is above board - we shuffled them around to prepare for other buttons in the future.

Well now it all makes sense - pay for the premium service and you can have extra buttons Hmm

sanityisamyth · 09/04/2020 13:12

I'm glad someone posted this. It's driving me nuts. Almost as much as some posters writing random letters or dots on posts because they can't be bothered to bookmark 😡

Wallywobbles · 09/04/2020 16:48

Please just switch them back today. As in now. Not when we've learnt it. That's just stupid. Can you really not see that. Sorry this has made me unreasonably pissed off. Maybe if we all just report everything you'll see how irritating it is first hand.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 09/04/2020 16:53

presumably the "edit" button premium users will get?

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 11/04/2020 13:05

Another one who's annoyed by this unnecessary change!

Lochroy · 11/04/2020 14:32

Perhaps they think if they piss us off enough we'll switch to the pay for service, but it just makes me think it shows they don't give two hoots about the users who are actually the people who make it what it is, and on the back of whom they've built their livelihoods.

LockedInMadness · 11/04/2020 23:55

@Lochroy yes it does make you wonder if they don't really give a stuff about us. No wonder some are jumping ship to the other new site that we're not allowed to mention Wink

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 14/04/2020 18:20

It's driving me crazy too. Anyone remember when Apple swapped the emoji and alphabet keys? They got so many complaints that they switched them back. Here's hoping...

WhatchaMaCalllit · 15/04/2020 17:19

Yet another reason why people are not sticking around....So they moved the buttons around (1) without letting people know that they were doing it, like any decent software developer would in a general notification to users of the service/application and (2) they don't seem to be interested in switching them back and putting whatever the "new" buttons are in the other location (where they moved the bookmark option to). They are aware that they could just keep moving the 'Report' option a bundle of pixels to the right each time they wanted to add a button, right?

TimMumsnet · 16/04/2020 09:12

Hi everyone, thanks for pointing this out.

I swapped around the buttons because I originally thought it made more sense that way. I didn’t realise how awkward this would be, so I’m reverting the changes now - apologies!

The button order should be back to normal in a few days, thanks for your patience.

SamSeabornforPresident · 16/04/2020 17:24

Just when I've got used it it. I'll be reporting again soon. Grin

Spaghettio · 16/04/2020 18:15

Thank you @TimMumsnet - it's been driving me crazy!

rslsys · 16/04/2020 19:37

A few days - how your systems update, carrier pigeon?

WhatchaMaCalllit · 17/04/2020 12:45

@rslsys - I'm going with smoke signals or semaphore with flags to be honest :D :D :D :D

TimMumsnet · 17/04/2020 13:43

@rslsys the delay is actually part of the review process. Every release on the iOS app gets reviewed by Apple, so there's always at least a day or two from work being finished to the app being released.

rslsys · 17/04/2020 13:48

@TimMumsnet

Shame there is not a process to tell users of upcoming changes that will affect their experience. Could be a tech version of AIBU - with voting!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 17/04/2020 14:50

Ah @rslsys, didn't you know that MN just make blanket updates without telling anyone about them (even small ones like moving the report/bookmark button on the app) and then when there is uproar point the finger elsewhere? That appears to be the modus operandi here. However, if there are things that MNetters have suggested nay even pleaded for, they can't even have those without forking over a fiver a month and even then, it's not a noticeable difference to the existing version, just 'fewer' adverts and an edit button for 15 seconds???

rslsys · 17/04/2020 14:56

I'm afraid they may have to learn that, with the introduction of the paid for Premium membership, users now need to be regarded as customers.

TimMumsnet · 17/04/2020 17:25

Ok, the app update has been released with the buttons reverted to how they were previously. Most devices will automatically download it, or you can update it manually here.

Let me know if anything isn't right!

HareTodayGoonTomorrow · 17/04/2020 19:04

Yay, back in the right place again! Had to do the update manually though - the Apple store has moved everything around as well Confused

acatcalledjohn · 18/04/2020 12:05

Hoorah!
