What aren't we allowed to talk about?

The last two threads I've posted on have been deleted for reasons I don't really understand. One was about the royal family and the other was about infidelity. Neither was (as far as I saw) libellous. The latter was zapped because it (quote) 'wasn't going well'. AFAIK there's nothing in the Talk Guidelines about threads having to 'go well' in order to remain.

I think it would save a lot of time if @mnhq could just confirm that we're banned from discussing certain topics. I'm sick of wasting time on threads which are deleted for the thinnest of reasons.

Hello there @thecognoscenti - thanks for your questions. We don't actually have a list of banned topics that set off alarms at HQ or anything like that. We do sometimes delete threads for 'not going well' if the discussion is contributing little other than upsetting everyone but we're always happy to talk about a specific deletion if you drop us a line. The royal thread we think you mean was taken down at OP's request because it was a duplicate thread.

I agree with MNHQ deleting threads that vilify women just living their lives. Being famous doesn’t stop them being humans.

(Not saying your thread did that, but if other posters were taking it in that direction)

Any thread about Madeleine McCann will NEVER go well.
