Coronavirus sub sections?

musicposy · 23/03/2020 08:52

It’s becoming impossible for people not to talk about coronavirus at the moment. Therefore hundreds of threads are being moved over to the one coronavirus topic and even then there are load of coronavirus related threads in chat and AIBU.

This means that, unless people start something very sensationalist in coronavirus, it’s gone from the first page in the blink of an eye and disappears with few or no replies.

I’m wondering if we should temporarily have coronavirus chat, coronavirus AIBU with voting, coronavirus health etc.

This would divide up the coronavirus topics into more useful subsections so people could find what they want without pages and pages of trawling.

It would also make it easier to get ALL the coronavirus and coronavirus related threads off of chat and AIBU, creating a more anxiety free zone for those who are struggling to cope with the constant onslaught. People could be signposted when they make an AIBU post “coronavirus related? Post in coronavirus AIBU”.

It could be put back into one topic once all this is over. Possible?

Yes 100% support this.

TheLinerunner · 23/03/2020 09:00

Good idea.

There could be Coronavirus education too; and money matters.

Tulipstulips · 23/03/2020 09:02

Maybe we could make one place absolutely corona free as well - like Chat. And delete threads that break the rule. rather than move them.

wanderings · 23/03/2020 09:03

Anything to get it out of chat. And please, get rid of trending now!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 23/03/2020 09:05

@MNHQ have (deliberately?) not been responding to any threads like this in Site Stuff where posters are asking questions about posts and users in places other than the CV topic; and overwhelmingly saying they don't want it across every board.

Please HQ, at least tell us if you won't be doing anything at all, so we can save our breath.

Dilbertian · 23/03/2020 09:09

But it is overwhelmingly part of every day life right now. If you don't want to see such threads hide them as soon as they come up.

YangShanPo · 23/03/2020 09:10

Yes put some subsections in.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 23/03/2020 09:17

But it is overwhelmingly part of every day life right now. If you don't want to see such threads hide them as soon as they come up.

Why? Most of us have hidden the entire CV topic yet still we are bombarded by people's personal opinions on it because they refuse to post where they should.

Why is the cumulative effect on my mental health (from repeatedly opening innocuous looking threads only to find they are yet more cv hyperbole) less important than your need to post in the wrong topic?

We KNOW about CV. We have done our own research and information gathering. We are at home. We come here for light relief, not opinionated grandstanding.

Agree to getting it out of trending too. I’ve clicked on stuff in trending with innocuous looking titles only to find its the most horrible, upsetting, and possibly untrue stuff. I’m having to just keep off mumsnet apart from once or twice a day to look at specific threads I’m on.

How do you know?

We come here for light relief, not opinionated grandstanding.

Maybe you do, but not everyone does.

Hide the thread and move on. Hide the entire topic and move on. As for trending? Ask MNHQ to make your Hidden threads not appear on your Trending. Or don't use Trending. Try using Active instead. Or go directly to boards that interest you.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 23/03/2020 10:31

How do you know?
From all the replies on threads like these saying so?

Maybe you do, but not everyone does.
Again, most people on threads like these are saying the same thing.

Ask MNHQ to make your Hidden threads not appear on your Trending. Or don't use Trending.
We have already asked MNHQ that. And we're not using Trending. As we keep pointing out. We're using boards directly but that is not workable because people keep posting off topic content in them.

Asking again, why do you feel your wish to post outwith the appropriate board should be the default? Why are you so keen to push your opinions in the faces of people who don't want it and have taken steps to avoid it? Do you go to the cat topic and bore on about dogs too?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2020 11:01

I support this too. It’s taken over most of our lives at the moment and it’s pointless trying to pretend otherwise

Samcro · 23/03/2020 11:08

can there also be a scaremongering topic.

Dilbertian · 23/03/2020 11:33

Replies and comments on threads like these? A handful compared to the number of users.

I don't wish to post any of the things you mention. But I defend others' rights to post things that matter to them. I don't need to engage with things I find distressing. If you believe it's gratuitous scaremongering either state so in the thread or, if you don't wish to engage, report it to MNHQ. Gratuitous scaremongering is equivalent to trolling.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 23/03/2020 12:08

But I defend others' rights to post things that matter to them
And we defend our right to request they are moved to the correct topic because our MH matters to us (as does our wish not to be forcefed cv all the live-long day). C'est la vie.

if you don't wish to engage, report it to MNHQ

I have been.

And I think almost without exception they are being moved to the right place.

Several messages from them read as follows, so clearly it is an issue:
"Hi all, sorry for the mass mail,

Thank you for all your reports about that thread - we'll move it over now

Best wishes,
MNHQ"

musicposy · 23/03/2020 12:16

There could be Coronavirus education too; and money matters

TheLinerunner yes, this is the kind of thing I mean. The coronavirus section is crazy and if you, for example, post a finance question because of coronavirus in money, it’ll be moved to coronavirus. But once there it just gets lost among the thousands of other more “interesting” threads. That section is madness at the moment, and understandably so. You can’t keep up. Posts disappear from the front page at the moment of writing within 5 minutes. How can people possibly wade through them all? So much is getting missed and unanswered. It’s not all about hiding it from other people, though I think that would be a definite added bonus to it.
