Is it possible to introduce this functionality?
It takes forever to go back to a thread you've been reading, and have to click through pages (which obviously means loading a page each time) to find where you were and then you have to scroll and scroll.
Most other boards use this, it would make the site much more user friendly if you could introduce it on MN?

There's a bookmark function, that works really well.

Mehooha · 18/02/2020 05:58

Where is the bookmark function and how do you use it?

I think bookmark is better, in a long thread I might scroll down but not have time to read all the post, I'd rather be ab le to choose where I start the next time

PleasantVille · 18/02/2020 06:02

I'm on the mobile site and you click on the word bookmark at the bottom of the post you want to come back to, I think on the app you click the dots

Mehooha · 18/02/2020 06:06

Ok, found the bookmark thing and clicked on it on this thread, but when I reopen the thread, how do I get to the bookmark? Does it automatically bring you to the bookmark?

It's still tedious as you're constantly loading new pages. Which seems really slow.

Most sites have the option to View First Unread, or to navigate the page numbers. So you wouldn't lose the ability to choose where to start.

I just find when you're following a few live threads, you're constantly View Threads I'm On. Then find there has been two replies on a thread you're on, so you have to click into the thread. Then click into the last page and then scroll...... It's just really time consuming. Then you read those. Go back to View Threads I'm On and repeat the process. I could take 3 minutes just to read two new replies on 2 separate threads. The pages seem really slow to load. Might be my broadband as we don't have the option of Fibre yet, but it's just SO SLOW!!

Then don't view as pages, set it so you see all posts on one page then it will go to there. I hate pages Smile

Mehooha · 18/02/2020 06:20

Too much effort PleasantVille. Plus you'd have to remember to bookmark everything. There should be a one click and you're there option rather than watching Mn twirling while it slowly slowly loads pages.

I wish I could video record what it's like trying to hop through multiple threads. It takes ages and ages waiting for pages to load. Then scrolling and scrolling. It takes too long!

Seriously, go to "customize" on the thread, (the down pointing arrow at top of page) change your "messages per page," to 1000 and that will be that for every thread.
No more endless clicking through pages!

PleasantVille · 18/02/2020 06:31

It's your choice of course but personally I find it zero effort, the button is literally there in front on me when I've read the post, it's second nature to click as I go.

It does sound like your internet speed is the problem though compounded by viewing as pages, have you tried removing the pages?

I use another forum that used to allow viewing all the posts then changed to pages, I've pretty much stopped visiting it now as I find pages frustrating. They really slow up reading.

Mehooha · 18/02/2020 06:37

I'm hoping HQ will comment to be honest. But thanks for the attempts to help.

just to say that you can't use the 1000 posts on one page function if you joined after January 2015 - then its 100 posts per page

PleasantVille · 18/02/2020 06:47

You can nitewotcha , for boring reasons I ended up having to re-register a few months ago and I have that option in customise.

Qcng · 18/02/2020 07:31

Nite
I'm pretty sure you can.
I also had to register again, around 2019.
Currently using that option.
It's so much easier. It was literally the first thing I did after registering.

PleasantVille · 18/02/2020 08:01

Me too @qcng Smile

NiteWotcha · 18/02/2020 09:12

Ah okay I stand corrected Blush
