I have another whinge about Advanced Search

SoupDragon · 25/01/2020 09:30

Sometimes the results of Advanced Search just result in what is basically an un-clickable screenshot. When this happens, the text in the "trending" box turns bold or italic. In the attached screenshot it's bold.

The person I advanced searched in the example is not particularly relevant - I just worked down the list of people posting on the Eastenders thread until I found one that made it happen!

I'm looking at the desktop site using Safari on an iPad.

Ooh, thanks for flagging this one up to us - we'll let our Tech team know.

Bump

Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi Soup,

Can we ask how often this happens?

SoupDragon · 16/04/2020 12:33

Not every time but enough to be annoying 😂

Once it's happened, it will always do it on that particular search (I tried to find a post about flour yesterday and everytime I tried it I got the "screenshot".) I think it maybe only does it if you add in a "search by poster" but I'm not sure.

I don't think anyone else has ever complained about it though.

www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?mustmatch=Bakery+&dontmatch=&nickname=&src_displ_option=s_m_d_m&fromDate=15%2F03%2F20&toDate=16%2F04%2F20&topicmode=All

This search does it (searching for bakery with a date restriction of 15/3/20 to 16/4/20)

Clearly search by poster name isn't the problem .

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/04/2020 12:40

I can only assume it's only me that has this problem though. Which is odd 😂

I haven't seen that before Soup

SoupDragon · 16/11/2020 10:34

This is really weird - I have a brand new iPad, the latest iOS and it is still doing this for me.

Ontopofthesunset · 16/11/2020 10:37

I have that problem too. Sometimes I just get a list of unclickable threads, usually when there have been a lot of hits. I'm using a Mac Book which is a couple of years old.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2020 10:38

Oh thank goodness it's not just me!

I quite often end up with a list of unclickable threads in search - it happened so much I basically stopped using it.

Occurs both on iPad using Safari and on laptop using Edge & Firefox - all the most up to date versions,

FrightClub · 16/11/2020 10:42

I get this too - 2018 MacBook Pro running Firefox.

Ontopofthesunset · 16/11/2020 11:38

Yes, I'm running Firefox too. It seems particularly to happen if there are a lot of hits - say if I'm trying to find some information I know a poster posted in a highly trafficked topic but I only know it's in the last month so can't narrow it down.

sometimes if you adjust the search dates the unclickable thing goes away, but I don't know if that's just a coincidence.

SoupDragon · 19/11/2020 10:23

Yes, I spend a lot of time faffing with dates and key words but it doesn't always make a difference. It's such an odd error though and seems to happen regularly. Also, once it has happened to a search, that search will always return the error - like the one I posted a link for upthread. It still goes wrong on what is a completely different iPad to the one I used originally.

Hi @SoupDragon sorry to hear you've been having problems. Please let us know if you have the same issue when you use a different browser. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it for you. Flowers

soniamumsnet · 19/11/2020 10:35

Also, can you provide a screenshot please? Flowers

SoupDragon · 19/11/2020 11:37

There's one in my OP

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 19/11/2020 11:44

It does it when I search on your name too :)

The whole page is basically a screenshot - nothing is clickable although it does scroll. The only visual clue is that the "trending" box turns bold or italic.

@SoupDragon
I am actually able to access that search you linked to. (Maybe try clearing cookies/ cache?)

SoupDragon · 19/11/2020 11:51

Maybe try clearing cookies/ cache?

I have an iPad that's a month old. Also, I had to clear them to solve a different problem and it didn't solve this one.

By restricting dates on the search I did on SoniaMumsnet, I get a usable result from 25th Sept to today (88 posts) and an unusable one from 24th Sept (92 posts).
