Sudden appearance of ads

Why am I suddenly seeing ads to the right of my screen? I haven't had these before!

I know from other threads that there must be some kind of blocking set up on my PC, but I haven't changed any settings, so why am I suddenly seeing them?!

Take them away, I don't like them!

we have ads most of the time on the right so if you haven't seen them before I'm guessing something's changed on your computer rather than at this end. I am however hopelessly technically inept so have reported this to tech and he might have a better explanation!

Some threads have adverts on the right (in a block called Sky), while others do not. No idea why it happens to some threads and not others - perhaps it's random based on when a new topic thread is created.

It seems to rely on JavaScript - so if that is disabled, then the adverts do not appear. However, if the advert does not appear, you can't click on it - and I presume it is by visitors clicking adverts that Mumsnet relies on to keep Mumsnet free to use.

Tech no doubt will be able to give full info, but this is what I have found having played with some settings on FireFox and using Firebug.

Should just say that I have no problem with MN earning money this way, it's just very disconcerting that they have suddenly appeared!
