Can we PLEASE change competition entry criteria??

(trying not to be too whingy)
I have recently moved to a new area and work FT so have no opportunity to explore the child-friendly places nearby.
I have added all the reviews I possibly can, without just making things up (which I presume is wrong ?).
Therefore, I cannot enter any more competitions (not that I've ever won any of them, but that's a whinge for later )

I know you need to build the listings up but please could you add this to the agenda for your next meeting?? (grovelling emoticon)

Thank you ever so.

oh come on, there is always something to review

I review books, nappies, prams yadda yadda

BandofMothers · 29/08/2007 09:11

I agree. There is not loads of stuff around here and I love to enter the competitions, but just can't think of any more to add that I, or someone else in the area has not already added.

OO - short of reviewing my commute or today's Times I'm afraid I really am out of ideas........

food?
books you have read to your children?
buggy (even if you go rid of it years ago )
nappies (even if you last used them years ago?)
holidays?

JustineMumsnet · 29/08/2007 09:17

Fair enough - we'll start throwing in a few other bits and bobs too.
Thanks for the input.

oliveoil · 29/08/2007 09:20

psst, don't tell MNHQ, but I reviewed a book by saying 'great' once

but in my defence I was on a comp deadline!

oliveoil · 29/08/2007 09:20

oh, hello Justine

springflowerslapin · 29/08/2007 09:21

Yes, and some areas are showing multiples of the same thing... but peace and love, sisters

zippitippitoes · 29/08/2007 09:22

whenever i have entered i have made it all up on most occasions any way...not that i bother much ...those surveys are particularly silly so have no qualms about fiction on those..

Have a look at your local childcare information service.
That will list loads of things in your area that you can add.
Also check your local paper.

WaynettaSlob · 29/08/2007 09:24

Thanks Justine.

OO I have reviewed holidays, buggies, play places, honest.
(but I won't squeal on you to MN HQ, honest guv'ner)

There's always going to be upcoming events to add to any local listing. Look at local newspapers and newsletters.

Justine, can people still add comments to existing a local listing, with more info and views on the listing subject?

I noticed the criteria for the last competition stated you must add a full listing. If an area is very extensively listed already, this makes it harder for new people to add anything.

Why is there not a category for reviewing adult books (and I don't mean that kind of adult books), like novels, all the reviews I ahve seen are for children's books, or chidlren's DVDs.
If it was for adult novels then it would be a different category for those who enter competitions and a lot of us on MN read, so it would give us a place to go for inspiration for our next book.

OliviaMumsnet · 30/08/2007 17:48

Meant to say, yes, comments on local listings also add as entry to a competition.
Thanks for pointing it out tigermoth.

tigermoth · 01/09/2007 09:32

olivia, glad that's the case, as I often want to add a comment or two. I wonder how many people are beginning to use the local listings? That gives me an idea for a new thread...
