Can we have a Politics section for all the Brexit/ nhs/ scare stories. There have been far too many lately. It would be lovely to have a break now ie we can choose to hide it.

I mean hide the whole section - not just threads

there is a politics section and I think a brexit one(there is even a royal family one.)

AlexaShutUp · 13/12/2019 09:33

Oh, don't be ridiculous. Just don't open the threads if you don't want to read them. There is already a politics section anyway.
The fact is, politics is important and you can't police where people post about it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/12/2019 09:37

There is one. But the GE is more than 'just politics' it has been much more immediate, meaningful for many posters. Of course it is going to be a large topic of conversation.

Just ignore or hide them until equilibrium returns

Stooshie8 · 13/12/2019 09:38

Ok, thanks - will block thoseSamcro
It's not always clear what the subject is. I spose I could block aibu.
Gender stuff is confined to feminist threads. MN don't confine political stuff to the political threads. They should.

That’s fucking ridiculous - it’s not just politics. You can’t hide everything that related to policy and the NHS. It affects absolutely everything.

Stooshie8 · 13/12/2019 11:27

I think you'll find I can hide whatever I want Confused

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2019 11:31

Just hide threads as you go along.

CanIHaveADrink · 13/12/2019 11:32

Stooshie8 actually MN IS confining political, eg all the brexit threads, to one area.
When it comes to the nhs etc... YOU can hide whatever you want but it doesnt mean it has to be hiden to everyone else....

FenellaMaxwell · 13/12/2019 11:34

YOU can hide whatever you want. I meant you can’t get them relegated to topics where they are hidden away to all. Reducing visibility of things that will affect us all is a terrible suggestion.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2019 11:38

You can hide threads in Active without even opening them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/12/2019 11:39

I think you'll find I can hide whatever I want I think you took that too personally.

You/collective = French vous

It would be impossible to segregate political posts when almost every topic of conversation can have a political bent... and is more likely to for the foreseeable future!

Stooshie8 · 13/12/2019 14:18

Thanks - don't know how I overlooked Hide thread.

Problem I have is no one is actually suggesting anything concrete to find money for the NHS/disabled/ homeless/ thousands who are dying due to Tory neglect (so we're told).
If they said tax the rich (define the rich, how much tax, what will it raise) and spend it on X (also defined) we could have debate but instead it's just wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Pilipilihoho · 13/12/2019 14:22

Perhaps it's time to sack off all the boards and just have chat and AIBU then? People are open about "posting for visibility" and if political topics are considered to be "too important" to confine to the politics' board, then perhaps this should be reflected in the removal of the board.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 13/12/2019 16:11

Thanks for posting @Stooshie8. As a few other posters have mentioned, we do have sections for politics/Brexit but we don't automatically shift all threads about politics over there - especially when these issues are extremely current and of such interest and importance to a significant number of MNers.

We recommend hiding the threads you don't want to see appearing in active - there's an option to do that at the top of the thread.
