Is voting set by default to be on for AIBU

Definitely didn't set a vote.
There is a vote
Maybe that explains why so many threads have votes for them?

OP posts:

Happened to me as well. IMO it shouldnt be happening because if an OP posts about a sensitive issue and voting just switches on automatically the OP is going to get the blame for something she hasnt done.

Ive never used the vote option.

Aridane · 09/12/2019 07:44

Agree, @HeIenaDove - but posters probably shouldn't be posting in AIBU on sensitive matters

Aridane · 09/12/2019 07:44

(sorry, that sounds like I'm justifying the AIBU pile ons - I'm not!)

BlouseAndSkirt · 09/12/2019 22:20

This is driving me potty!

Please, MNHQ, re-set the Voting facility to opt in rather than opt out.

The slew of nonsensical questions that cannot be answered by the YABU/YANBU buttons is driving my pre-Christmas curmudgeonliness to undignified heights. I thought the collective IQ of MN had plummeted overnight...but then found out that it is people not realising the default has changed, or are forgetting to turn it off.

Please send help. It is making AIBU even more unbearable than usual.

(See? About the curmudgeonliness?)

BalsamicVin · 09/12/2019 22:28

It looks like it's on for the whole of AIBU

Still no word from @MNHQ?

Maybe we should add a vote?

LilyMumsnet · 10/12/2019 17:48

Hello,

No - it shouldn't be! Please can we have your device and browsers? We'll investigate.

Thanks all. Flowers

iPad - and this is what AIBU looks like if I were to start a new thread

No worries @Aridane Smile

Google Chrome on a laptop.

LilyMumsnet · 11/12/2019 17:47

Hi folks

Our apologies for the miscommunication yesterday.

Voting on AIBU is now set to 'on' by default, and can be turned off by making sure that the 'enable voting' option is on the 'no' answer.

If you've accidentally enabled voting on your thread and want it removed, we should be able to fix that for you, so just report the thread to us using the report button.

Surely it should be off by default?

Some people might get votes that they don't want to see and could make them feel uncomfortable?

Fair comment - I'll pass it back to the team. Flowers

BlouseAndSkirt · 11/12/2019 21:56

Please make it ‘off’ the default.

It is leading to some truly irrelevant an confusing polls where there is no question. It is just thread litter, having a default voting option.

And it is a good point: some people might get results, that they didn’t intend to ask for, that upset them.

BlouseAndSkirt · 12/12/2019 07:49

Here is a quote from the advent candle thread
“Your AIBU vote was so unclear. I said YABU as your post suggested you thought this was ok.”

Just imagine someone did base an important safety decision on a garbled question or a vote that they didn’t even realise was there as a default!

BlouseAndSkirt · 12/12/2019 07:50

P.s meant to say @MNHQ
