MN pages using significant energy

I browse MN on a laptop.
Safari (Macbook) is always moaning about the high energy usage of the thread pages.
Safari doesn't moan about twitter or any other site I go to...

Is it all the ads?
Puts me off going on MN if I think it's going to freeze my machine up.
Anyone else ever get this warning?

Hi OP

Thanks for this info - we just need to ask for a bit more so we can delve into what might be causing this.

Could you let us know the page your were viewing when this happened (or if it happens all the time)? Also, are you logged in to the site when you get this message?

It'll be the ads playing. I get the same thing, it's got worse recently.

It's basically like I'm live streaming something and costs in terms of mobile internet to run the site and memory so it freezes. You'll need Adblock to stop it (sorry MNHQ) or if that's not an option (it isn't for me) then you'll need to reduce the time you spend here.

AnyMinuteNow · 22/11/2019 22:35

I get a sense of the live-streaming drain too. Battery and resource draining.

Becca19962014 · 23/11/2019 10:22

I have three ads playing at once right now and my battery is rapidly declining and resouce stats are red. I actually use less if I am streaming something I want to e.g. YouTube. Put simply it's costing me a lot to use MN now.

You can set your device not to autopsy ads, surely?

Becca19962014 · 24/11/2019 10:09

There's no option to stop ads playing.
The only way to stop them is ad block.

OnionsOnionsOnions · 26/11/2019 22:57

Download adblocker OP.

Becca19962014 · 26/11/2019 23:09

Not everyone can run Adblock unfortunately. I can't for example as my device is too old; that said if the OP can then that'll solve the issue for them!
