Question about threads that are taken down

WhatchaMaCalllit · 05/11/2019 11:58

I have a question about threads that are taken down by MN when they post up "We're taking this thread down while we look into things" kind of posts.

Does MN ever reinstate threads if they have looked into it or are the posts taken down permanently?
Does MN ever just lock a thread (i.e. stop people adding posts/comments to it), put the reason why they are locking the thread and leave it up so others can read it?

I think I can remember one

I can recall deleted threads being reinstated in the last few months WhatchaMaCallit.

I wish they would just lock threads while they are considering them. It is very confusing when they disappear and then reappear - and baffling when they just disappear without explanation.

There’s a Father Christmas/MIL one that is currently locked but still standing.

Hi OP

Thanks for raising this!

If we work things out behind the scenes and we feel, to the best of our knowledge, that the thread is genuine then we will reinstate it.

If we don't reach a satisfying conclusion behind the scenes (which is often the case), then we do not allow the poster back or reinstate the thread.

We do occasionally lock threads - sometimes permanently, or sometimes just to catch up on reports or figure out any restrictions in place (for instance, a legal thread posted may need to be checked whilst we figure out any reporting restrictions).

It isn't a fine art, but we're always happy to clarify any decisions.

Hope this helps and if you have any more questions, just give us a shout.
