Abbreviations

When I post, grey brackets appear after all the abbreviations I have included in my message to say what my abbreviations are short for. It's rather irritating. I wouldn't mind, except:

  1. I typed them, so I know their meanings.
  2. Every time I try to write 'oh' it autocorrects to "OH (other half)'. Which is never what I mean anyway, as I use DP/DH/DW and it totally changes the meaning of my sentence when I actually want to type 'oh' as in the word.

How do I turn this function off please @MNHQ?

Hi @RolytheRhino

I can imagine that would be really frustrating when you know all of our acronyms.
There is a tick box all the way at the bottom of your preferences page, you just need to untick it.

Thank you! Smile

Does it translate TSSDNCOP and ODFOD?

RolytheRhino · 24/10/2019 19:38

I've turned it off now so don't know, but I somewhat doubt it. It only seemed to do other half and original poster. Didn't say what OTOH meant. I don't think it suggested what DD etc meant either, but I could be misremembering.

@MNHQ umm, slight issue. I keep trying to untick the box but the moment I click save the box ticks itself again... Any ideas?

On the plus side, I can confirm @EmpressLesbianInChair, that it does not translate those acronyms, though it does translate TBH, which is how I found out it was still switched on!

Help @MNHQ, it's still doing it! It resets every time I press save...

Hi @RolytheRhino please let us know if you are still having problems with this. Flowers

RolytheRhino · 11/11/2019 05:34

It's still doing it, I'm afraid @MNHQ.

Hi @RolytheRhino please drop us a line with your device, and the browser you're using at: [email protected] and we'll investigate further. Smile

RolytheRhino · 11/11/2019 19:52

OK @soniamumsnet, but I'm pretty sure it's not to do with my device. This didn't happen with my old account, only since I've deleted the old one and started a new one. And I was on the same device and browser before.

Hi there OP, it helps us when we are trying to pinpoint the problem, and trying to recreate it - as we have to do this before we can try and fix it! Write to us on here, or email us :) [email protected]
