What’s the plan for trolls?

I’m sick of seeing people being sucked into threads about periods, shit, schools, weird ‘women’ troubles, teacher issues, underwear, children's sexuality, dog piss, pretending to be rich, nannies, nurseries etc etc etc blah blah blah.

We get banned if we call these horrific humans out. Surely it’s high time to have some sort of signal to alert everyone else to NOT share intimate stories or give advice to this hideous people?

MNHQ. It’s getting out of hand now. Every other forum has decent anti-troll things in place. Why’s yours?

Eh? Such as what?
Also Troll doesn't mean what you think it means.

They are generally popped back under their bridge to stroke their hairy hands until they hatch a new tale.

Curious to know what sort of measures you’re thinking of?

I think it’s just part of being online and that the MN community is pretty good at warning posters not to share too much personal information.

I report things when I’m not sure, and it’s always responded to whether I’m right or wrong. I find that reassuring.

You can’t troll hunt on a thread though, for good reason.

Hi there MustardScreams,

We know we sound like a stuck record on this but honestly the best thing you can do is hit the report button on these.

Yes, sometimes we get it wrong, or it takes us a while to work out that someone is a troll. But for the most part, it is usually obvious from our end when someone is trolling. (We're afraid we don't want to give too much away about how we can tell and what we're doing to keep trolls out but please know that it's one of our priorities).

We understand why it's tempting to troll hunt but it really does just encourage the mendacious little beggars further. A quick report to us is honestly the most efficient way of getting it sorted, and in the middle of the night you can always drop The Night Watch a line, too.

Do tell Grin.

People have to realise it they are online then there are trolls. If you are going to be clutching your pearls over someone asking about plimsolls or sanitary towels then the internet is not for you.

You can't fix the internet sadly. Fortunately if you report it they get deleted. Just unclench and stop giving them so much attention.
