To wonder why MNHQ is gratuitously trying to offend Christians?

I usually use MN on my laptop, but whenever I try to grab a quick look on my phone, I keep getting an annoying pop-up inviting me to sign up to receive regular emails. It doesn't have an X in the corner to click and get rid of it, but I discovered that it will eventually go if you tap elsewhere on the screen.

The last couple of times, it's had a bizarre message saying "Jesus saves, Mumsnet delivers". What is it even meant to mean? I think it seems to be juxtaposing Jesus with MN and suggesting that MN is superior, but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

No, I'm not terribly upset by it, before anybody calls me a snowflake, but it just seems a very strange message to choose and wantonly calculated to cause offence to Christians. Why would you do that? What was the point in it? It just comes across as a very poor show and a cheap shot for no reason at all.

It sounds like MN have been hacked again

PurpleDaisies · 10/09/2019 23:17

Bizarre.

JaneJeffer · 10/09/2019 23:17

@MNHQ

Lockheart · 10/09/2019 23:18

I have never seen this. I've never had any pop ups on MN on my phone. Maybe it's malware on your phone and not the website?

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2019 23:20

That sounds odd.Confused

Helpfindme · 11/09/2019 01:09

Probably because it is socially acceptable to berate Christian's nowadays.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2019 01:14

How odd. I haven't seen that.

Thymejuice · 11/09/2019 01:14

I hope it's not malware because I had the same pop up earlier! I did have the X in the top right corner to get rid of it though.

MindyStClaire · 11/09/2019 06:38

I've seen the pop up repeatedly when on my laptop over the past week or two. Didn't notice what it said, because it's a pop up so closed it immediately. Very annoying.

slipperywhensparticus · 11/09/2019 06:42

I suppose it's because Christian's are fair game really hundreds of years ago dead people caused wars and we get the blame now

Or its piss poor choices by the advertisers

Bringonspring · 11/09/2019 06:44

That is bizarre. Rubbish advertising.

StrumpersPlunkett · 11/09/2019 06:48

😡 I always thought they were better than that.

Teacakeandalatte · 11/09/2019 06:51

That sounds odd, as you say it doesn't really make sense.

LellyMcKelly · 11/09/2019 06:52

Why is it offensive?

DappledThings · 11/09/2019 07:22

I've not seen it but it sounds like a variation on the old graffiti of "Jesus Saves" followed by "But [insert name of popular contemporary striker] saves on the rebound"

Updated for the Amazon age. It doesn't really work but I can't see it's offensive. And yes I'm a practising Christian.

AuntieStella · 11/09/2019 07:36

I think that sort of slogan has no place whatsoever in a diverse (and pluriconfessional) community

AsTheWorldTurns · 11/09/2019 07:37

Why is it offensive?

I'm not offended, but it is a curiosity. I don't think MN would use Allahu Akbar in its marketing, would it?

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 11/09/2019 07:41

If it’s genuine then it’s rather silly.

mintich · 11/09/2019 07:44

I think its offensive when you consider they would never use any other religion as a slogan

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 11/09/2019 07:47

I consider it offensive and completely unnecessary (although thankfully not seen it myself) @MNHQ ?

longwayoff · 11/09/2019 07:50

Address your complaint to someone who can deal with it I.e. MN HQ. Then, instead of trying to stir up yet more division and hatred, do something Christian. Go on, turn the other cheek.

Ohyesiam · 11/09/2019 07:53

It’s based on the joke
Jesus saves, but Pele scores on the rebound.
Brazil Is a heavily Christian country, but they worship football too, and want pele canonised.

flowery · 11/09/2019 07:54

It is vanishingly unlikely they have done something “wantonly calculated to cause offence to Christians”. They may have done something which does cause offence to Christians. But causing offence to Christians will not have been the “gratuitous” aim of this. Why on earth would it be?! The aim will be to get people signed up to mailing lists.

saraclara · 11/09/2019 07:55

I can't see any stirring up of division and hatred in the OP @longwayoff
That's because there isn't any. I'm neither Christian nor remotely religious, but OP has a point and she's made it calmly and rationally.

Hedgehogblues · 11/09/2019 07:57

I'm a Christian and I couldn't give a crap.
