To wonder why MNHQ is gratuitously trying to offend Christians?

I usually use MN on my laptop, but whenever I try to grab a quick look on my phone, I keep getting an annoying pop-up inviting me to sign up to receive regular emails. It doesn't have an X in the corner to click and get rid of it, but I discovered that it will eventually go if you tap elsewhere on the screen.

The last couple of times, it's had a bizarre message saying "Jesus saves, Mumsnet delivers". What is it even meant to mean? I think it seems to be juxtaposing Jesus with MN and suggesting that MN is superior, but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

No, I'm not terribly upset by it, before anybody calls me a snowflake, but it just seems a very strange message to choose and wantonly calculated to cause offence to Christians. Why would you do that? What was the point in it? It just comes across as a very poor show and a cheap shot for no reason at all.

If you don't even understand what it means why are you getting offended? Hmm

Maybe @MNHQ can clear up any confusion.

Morning all - and thanks for the reports about this thread.
It sounds like strange behaviour from an advert - please bear with us whilst we investigate. And if anyone has a screenshot or a link to where the advert is linking to, that would be a huge help too.
We'll move this to the Site Stuff area in a mo.

PurpleDaisies · 11/09/2019 08:01

A mumsnet advert? Did you use that slogan or not?

AmIThough · 11/09/2019 08:01

@Ohyesiam I think you'll find Jesús is a goalkeeper so they're talking about him saving goals then Pele scoring them, rather than talking about Jesus the saviour...

FamilyOfAliens · 11/09/2019 08:04

I think its offensive when you consider they would never use any other religion as a slogan

How do you know that?

PurpleDaisies · 11/09/2019 08:07

How do you know that?

You seriously have to ask whether mumsnet would use Allah or Muhammad as part of their advertising? Really?!

AmIThough · 11/09/2019 08:20

@PurpleDaisies Muslims also believe that Jesus is a prophet.
Isa ibn Maryam = Jesus son of Mary.

No, it is about Jesus Christ - there are variations in most countries, nominally Christian anyway.

SaskiaRembrandt · 11/09/2019 08:27

That should be nominally Christians ones

mintich · 11/09/2019 08:32

@longwayoff "go on turn the other cheek" ???

Teacakeandalatte · 11/09/2019 08:43

Agree MN should not use a slogan that is disrespectful to Christians but longwayoff is correct in saying the Christian thing to do would be to talk directly to the one who offended you (matt 18:5) and forgive them their trespasses 70x7 times(matt 18:22).

mintich · 11/09/2019 08:50

It sounded pretty cheeky and disrespectful in the way she said it. Forgiving people doesn't mean ignoring what they did

dudsville · 11/09/2019 08:50

Firstly, I misread the title as "christmas", so of course I clicked. And B, yes sounds like a glitch/hack.

Ohyesiam · 11/09/2019 09:01

@AmIThough
Yes, that’s how I understand it too.

phoenixrosehere · 11/09/2019 09:04

I don't think MN would use Allahu Akbar in its marketing, would it?

If they did that, some would say sharia law is

phoenixrosehere · 11/09/2019 09:05

being forced upon us . 🙄

phoenixrosehere · 11/09/2019 09:06

I also highly doubt mumsnet is out to offend Christians, yet severs

phoenixrosehere · 11/09/2019 09:07
  • several would assume offends for little reason.
Ohyesiam · 11/09/2019 09:20

Oh I see AmIThough you mean it just happens to be the name Jesus, like in the U.K. it might be John?
It doesn’t really stand as a joke though , if it’s your way, and in Brazil in the 00s when I lived there it was definitely used as a joke or a sort of funny slogan.
We had our daughter there, and the obstetrician was begging us to call her Pele if she were a boy!
