Why are acronyms suddenly being "explained" here...little grey text showing up beside acronyms??

I noticed it today...acronyms coming up in grey text like (darling husband) next to DH.

It's weird!

No it's not done it but when I just responded to a thread, it did it there and I thought the OP was explaining her use of the acronyms.

That's the thread...and it listed my surprised "Oh!" as (Other half)

This site is seriously glitchy...it's weird! Given that other sites like Reddit almost NEVER have stuff like this happen, you've got to wonder who runs the back end of the site!

It's been doing it for a while now.

I guess it's to make it easier for those unfamiliar with the acronyms to read messages and to stop the constant "can someone explain "x,y,z acronym" threads that kept cropping up.

But it's not visible on all threads....it's weird to roll something like that out and not mention it surely? Or ask for opinions.

And then to roll it out in such a half hearted fashion.

I noticed it too a while ago.

Have worked out it's on the pregnancy threads. So I think it's to help new users who have come looking for support and advise, get to learn learn the lingo gently.

Oh fair enough then. Bit weird tho! I don't usually comment there so that's why I'd never noticed.

But if I look at that thread, none of the acronyms are spelt out? Am I seeing something different to you?

Maybe they only show up for the people who comment on it. Summer you could comment on it and see if it changes....

They could just have them at the bottom of the page instead of the weird hover thing.

you can go to Customize and turn off your Acronym Translator (its right at the bottom of the list) - just uncheck it

I don't see the acronyms spelt out

the translator is only used on the pregnancy, conception and ante-natal boards.
you can use Customise to turn it off (click the arrow next to Talk above)
