I take it this one slipped past you, MNHQ?

Well that’s not exactly woman friendly?

I could be wrong but my understanding is that ads are tailored individually based on your cookies etc. So the ads I see are different to the ones you see and are more relevant to me.

ohcanada · 29/07/2019 22:40

Yep, I'm seeing lovely dresses and shoes OP... What have you been searching/looking at!

S1naidSucks · 29/07/2019 22:40

Well unless they think a 51 woman spending most of her time on the feminist pages, means I need some advice on how to woman better, I think they’ve fecked up somewhere. 🤣

Slimming world, Facebook and Mumsnet. That’s how exciting my life is. I never ever click adds or links.

TheLovelyHorse · 29/07/2019 22:44

I just had a shifty scam ad show up. No reason for it from my cookies.

ohcanada · 29/07/2019 22:46

But you use Google, and use the internet. It's a a Google powered ad (MN will have no input into what is shown). The kind of things you usually search or look at online will have triggered certain 'interest' and 'topics' that Google collect about you, so they can attempt to show you relevant adverts. Obviously not always accurate.

So you looking at Mumsnet and Slimming World (probably on a Chrome browser) means that Google might assume you are a woman over the age of 25, interested in relationships, motherhood, woman's issues. The people buying the ad space off Google will have stipulated that they want their ads to be shown to people who fit this criteria... Make sense?

tigerlily111 · 29/07/2019 22:50

I get waterside (polishes halo)

tigerlily111 · 29/07/2019 22:51

Water aid

S1naidSucks · 29/07/2019 22:54

Make sense?

To a point, I suppose. Don’t MNHQ accept the ads that appear on their site? That’s a shitty ad to accept on a mainly women’s site. Women don’t need crappy ads telling them that they’re doing something that is putting men off. It’s just shit.

Bales of bloody Egyptian cotton towels.....🤘

Smellbellina · 29/07/2019 23:02

What ever the reason behind it I agree with OP, seems to be about exactly what MN isn’t about surely they wouldn’t want any such adds showing up on their site for any of their users? It’s quite anti-brand isn’t it? Unless I have got MN all wrong?! 😱
OP fundamentally MN is about marking money, echo chambers and bullying. If you’re lucky this might not become apparent and you can just talk about knitting or something like a good MC woman. Otherwise, this will come up and when it does it will absolutely be your fault!

MyOtherProfile · 29/07/2019 23:07

"Find your perfect mobile contract" here

S1naidSucks · 29/07/2019 23:09

Hahaha Me being thought of as a good middle class woman! Grin That’s a first!

Badabingbadabum · 29/07/2019 23:12

High quality printing and Zoopla for me. Are you like the OP who tweeted JK Rowling about the Lovehoney adverts on a Harry Potter site?

Smellbellina · 29/07/2019 23:14

Keep trying @S1naidSucks

BinkySodPlop · 29/07/2019 23:18

Have you disabled personalised ads? I think I have, as mine are random - tea and casinos....

BinkySodPlop · 29/07/2019 23:19

Sorry - posted too soon. It's a pretty offensive as that looks like it should be on the Sidebar of Shame.

GiggleMcDimples · 29/07/2019 23:21

I've currently got an ad for 2 for 1 + free shipping on all brands at HAWKERS. Whoever they are.

GlacindaTheTroll · 29/07/2019 23:24

I've never had that ad

Perhaps someone else has access to one or more of your devices, and that is why you are getting that one pushed to you. They are very closely linked to what you have looked at (though of course they do not know if you have clicked on something because you are interested, or because you're following a news item you deplore.

MN does have a list of categories where they do not accept ads at all, and relationships advice sites are not currently on it.

TildaTurnip · 29/07/2019 23:28

Find your perfect mobile contract

That’s what I have.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/07/2019 23:30

Well, in my experience the no. 1 reason that men pull away is because I've told them to fuck off. Grin (I'm missing the point of the thread, I know, but I have no tech-y knowledge to add.)

S1naidSucks · 29/07/2019 23:31

GlacindaTheTroll! You’ve solved the mystery, I think! My youngest wash on my iPad earlier. She’s probably hit some random nonsense about the boys/young men that she watches on tv. 😁

OP posts:
MitziK · 29/07/2019 23:44

I get loads of shit about toys and Islamic clothing. Neither of these categories are things I search for.

OneFootintheRave · 29/07/2019 23:53

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar Grin

FossiPajuZeka · 30/07/2019 07:43

I agree that's a horrible ad.

It's not true that MN have no input. They can't affect which ads get shown to which user because that is all done by algorithm, but they have an approvals process to select which ads are OK - they have removed especially annoying ads before.

@S1naidSucks if you don't get a response from MNHQ you need to use the "report" button on one of the posts in this thread (either your op or a later one) to get it onto someone's list of thing to pay attention to.
