The one about the trans child skater competing as a boy or as a girl -

this was a calm, reasonable discussion of a real issue women and girls are facing, where women explained and reasoned why this is a problem for women and girls, and why many of the common arguments used to justify it don't work.

The thread appears to have been deleted because of the OP's behaviour in their last couple of posts. Why did this whole discussion and debate have to be lost to remove those few offensive and inappropriate posts instead of those posts being removed? Multiple posts were made after the MNHQ post that the thread was going, explaining and asking for it to remain, this seems an unfair decision and yet more silencing of women when they stand up for women's rights, no matter how reasonably or politely they try to do it.

OP posts:

Well put OP. The only bigotry and hatred came from one single poster, whose posts were deleted before the thread was taken down anyway.

Bad call MN.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 02/07/2019 21:47

Cassort got what they wanted. Had a recent posting history then started thread (avoiding the preexisting one in feminist chat) did not get the responses or screenshots they wanted, ended up looking like an unhinged eejit in the process so chose to go nuclear.
Slow handclap.

WarmthAndDepth · 02/07/2019 22:06

I'm very surprised and quite disappointed with MNHQ's decision to pull this thread. I thought it was informative with many reasoned arguments. I wish you had an option to let threads stand but suspend comments or something, if you're unhappy with how a thread is developing, as I saved this at lunchtime to return to later, at which point the debate was mutually respectful, and, if allowed to remain, would have been an excellent resource.

endofthelinefinally · 02/07/2019 22:11

OP deliberately engineered the deletion of the whole thread.
The MN moderator fell for it.
Anybody could get any thread they liked deleted by employing the same tactic.

GurlwiththeCurl · 02/07/2019 22:13

I agree with the OP and PPs here. There were loads of excellent posts calmly explaining the situation with girls’ and women’s sports. The OP of that thread was clearly engineering a deletion.

Please reinstate!

myrtleWilson · 02/07/2019 22:16

I missed the OPs last posts - what were they saying?

I thought it was a polite, reasonable thread - no need to remove it all just the OPs post if they were against TG?

OrchidInTheSun · 02/07/2019 22:35

I flicked through the thread when the OP came back and it was blatantly clear they were spoiling for a fight.

Up until then, it had been an interesting and well-tempered discussion.

I would like to understand MNHQ's rationale for deleting - were there lots of reports and were they by people who actually post on MN? Because I believe it is very easy to gain the system here - sign up with a bunch of mates, bash the report button repeatedly on a particular thread and bang! Thread is gone.

Can anyone at MNHQ confirm that this isn't how reporting works on here? Because it's rather a blunt instrument on a board which we know is targeted by TRAs.

donquixotedelamancha · 02/07/2019 22:47

@MNHQ. I will admit that I did not see the recent posts, but I too thought the discussion I saw was constructive.

I know you don't like to comment on removal decisions but perhaps this one could be reconsidered?

MrsMiggins37 · 02/07/2019 22:49

I agree.

BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 23:04

I thought it was a really useful and educational thread, and I really don't think it should have been deleted.

BitOfFun · 02/07/2019 23:05

There were so many great links for further reading, too.

MichaelMumsnet · 03/07/2019 07:59

Morning. That thread went well off the rails and we decided to take it down. We tried to keep it by moderating some posts because it was an interesting discussion - but it became increasingly obvious that the OP wasn't posting in good faith.

We're happy to take another look - but if we decide to bring the discussion back we'll need to remove a lot of posts - so please bear with us for now.

Samcro · 03/07/2019 08:05

what a shame. I actually learnt stuff reading it

Hi again,
Thanks for raising this, we've done some pruning and reinstated it now. Here's a link to the thread.

OrchidInTheSun · 04/07/2019 17:21

Thank you

UserUndone · 04/07/2019 17:30

Thank you. No matter how difficult, some subjects need to be discussed and not swept under the carpet.
