I thought people were just being annoying when they did the @poster thing instead of quoting the message, so we didn't have to scroll through hundreds of messages to see what they were referring to.

But it actually seems like the main reason behind this is because people don't know how to quote? I'm only on reddit, but it seems the vast majority of other forums have a 'reply' function.

I understand the arguments against 'nesting' replies, like reddit does. But couldn't there be a function where you could click reply, the poster's quote would appear in bold, you could type your response and it would appear at the bottom of the post as usual?

I don't see any downsides in implementing this, and it would increase the reader experience and ease of use exponentially.

Please, please, pleaseeeee make it happen.
