Probably still time to organise it... not sure how nominations and voting would take place? What would the categories be?

  • Funniest MN-er
  • Best MN-er in a supporting role
  • Most eloquent poster
  • ?
  • ?
  • ?

Prizes could be awarded at the glamourous christmas party...

Actually, I'm not sure I really meant let's do it, so much as let's have a laugh at what the potential categories could be....

I personally am a very competitive person, so love things like this, but can also understand that some people would feel left out...
However I also think a 'nomination' process would allow lots of people to highlight, thank and recognise fellow mumsnetters, which would be a nice thing to do.

Mo2 there was a thread recently that let people highlight, thank and recognise fellow mumsnetters - I think it was at the weekend

wobblyknicks · 15/09/2004 15:23

people weren't keen on this so there'd be murder for an awards ceremony!!!

vict17 · 15/09/2004 15:26

Thanks WK - I knew it was around somewhere!

Like I said further down - I wasn't seriously proposing it - more just a hypothetical "what if?".... WK & Suzywong have got the idea.....

Not good idea, even as a joke. Some tie ago, someone started a "who would be mumsnet head girl" which some people thought was a popularity contest.

OTOH, I would like to nominate myself for the "Least frequent poster" award.

wobblyknicks · 15/09/2004 15:33

Mo2 - I'll get killed but I have to say YES some of them are!!!

And Galaxy - you definitely get the award for "lovely MN'er who gives perfect tours of Croydon shopping centre with her 2 gorgeous kids in tow"!!!

and he held the doors open with only very mild protest - how much more chivalry can you ask for!!!

Mo2 · 15/09/2004 15:40

Galaxy - no problems - as I said I wasn't seriously proposing we do it, it was more a hypothetical scenario.

Interestingly, I hadn't seen WK's thread, which is almost exactly the same idea.
I have to say though, I'm half serious about the "Are MNrs too sensitive & serious" thing - WK - I'm definitely with you on this one....

Mo2 - if you don't do it then I just might! Think some are very well meaning but a bit TOO concerned about what everyone would think IMHO. In some cases there'll always be someone who gets offended and sometimes you should let them get on with it rather than protect them, IMO.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2004 15:44

Don't do it...!

Mo2 · 15/09/2004 15:57

Galaxy - Ah the 'underdog' - that'll be me then... because I wasn't nominated by anyone for anything on WK's thread...
But then, nor would I expect to be, 'cos I rarely post, and don't know that many people on here IRL
But you see, that doesn't bother me in the slightest - I don't immediately assume it's because everyone hates me, or that I am outside the 'clique' or that I didn't shower this morning etc, etc, I just think 'in the circumstances, this is probably right - I wouldn't expect to be...

This probably isn't the right place to start this debate, but it really alarms me the way the UK in general (and even Mumsnet within this) is developing such an "anti-competition, prizes for all" culture. It's the same with school sports days where there are no winners, in case the 'losers' get upset....... madness IMO.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and should be recognised as such. Life would be so dull if we were all equal in everything

This would be an interesting one to pursue in a separate thread, because it's clear that there are very diverse views on this on MN. To be honest, It's one of the reasons why I don't visit here as much as I used to - I've found the new "thou shalt not risk excluding anyone, upseting anyone or making any remotely controversial statement" culture rather suffocating.

(wish I didn't feel I needed to write that, for example...)

Too bad that this idea probably won't be a reality, because, in the spirit it was intended, it would have been great entertaintment and lots of laughs.
If nothing else, I'm glad this thread was started because I got to see WK's thread that I missed when I was gone. I read that one with great interest, and would have loved to post on it if I was around.

Grommit · 15/09/2004 16:09

couldn't do this - we are all such sensitive souls...
