View 1000 messages

Hi MN, I've just re-registered. I used to have it set up in different colours and so that I could view 1000 messages rather than have them on different pages and I can't for the life of me remember how to do it now. Could you remind me?

I think you can only do it if you were a member on a certain date, I don't think new members/re-registers have that option

But on long threads there’s a thing at the top that says view all messages but when you click it it doesn’t work.

New joiners can’t highlight OP & their own posts?

Why has that changed? Is it a recent thing? If so no wonder there are now so many of those infuriating threads where the poster has only read the OP & no updates, so their responses are entirely unhelpful

Why would you take away the only feature that helps people to RTFT?

There's no way I'd bother going into long threads on the mobile app if I couldn't highlight the OP's posts.

I am gutted about this after just having reregistered (twice in a few months due to someone borrowing my iPad and seeing my account)

It makes NO difference to the speed in which the pages load! It’s just as slow or fast as it ever was (1000 used to load quickly on android and slowly on the iPad. Now 100 loads quickly on android and 100 loads just as slowly as ever on the iPad).

Since I deregistered at the end of last year and lost this functionality, I have been on so much less.

I can’t be bothered to wait for page after page to load. I can’t search a thread properly anymore.

The site just gets less and less user friendly and more and more ad friendly (which is what’s causes loading problems anyway IMO)

I can no longer change the colour of the OP/ my message anymore. I hate the pink/ purple colour.

Oo, is that true? That newer members can’t highlight their and OP’s posts? Surely that makes longer threads practically unusable, it also explains why so many people don’t rtft!

That is ridiculous if there is no longer an option to highlight posts. It is incredibly difficult to follow a thread without it.

It’s highlighted, but you can no longer choose colours.

I can’t now find anywhere to change the number of threads on a page - not even 100. It’s just extra click after extra click. You used to be able to load 1000 messages, scroll through the whole thread (stopping at the OP). Now you have to keep clicking on page after page. It’s no wonder people can’t be bothered.

A thread of 900 messages is over 9+ pages (some people mention many more pages). No wonder people can’t be bothered to RTFT. It’s as slow as ever, so these changes haven’t helped at all other than to make the user experience worse!!!!!!

A thread in Active with 969 posts is 39 pages long!! Who has time to read through them waiting for each page to load!!

Gosh removing the highlight OP function is spectacularly daft. Why has it been done? Makes me very pleased I've never deregged.

The 1000 posts thing is great to have but I can understand why that could be a problem for the site. Totally understand why it's gone for new users.

Even after all these years it still annoys and surprises me in equal measure that threads I bookmark don't appear on my watched list. Obvs it'd be easiest if it happened automatically but considering there are 7 options but 8 places in the wee drop down menu it seems silly to have to faff so much to watch a thread: 1, click the dots and hit bookmark. 2, click em again and hit 'top'. 3, open yet another menu. 4, watch the thread. So frustrating!

Just to be clear, the OP is still highlighted, but it is not customisable and I was grumbling because I don’t like the colours.

The 1000 thread thing makes the experience so much worse.
