Pictures on threads in Chrome

Is anyone else having problems with pictures in posts today? If I click on a picture in a post on a thread, instead of just opening the picture right "on top of" the thread, it now takes me to view the picture on a separate webpage with a different URL eg www.mumsnet.com/uploads/talk/201902/large-841595-puckering-1.jpg and I have to click "back" to keep reading the thread. I've added a picture of what the picture (from an old Royal Style and Gossip thread!) looks like when I've clicked it - just the picture on its own with a black background.

This morning, if there was more than one picture uploaded at once, so you get a little gallery (second pic attached), clicking on any of the thumbnails caused the picture to download to my computer rather than opening up to view - but this has stopped happening this afternoon and it just opens the picture with the black background, same as I've just described above.

What's happened, is this happening to anyone else, and can it be fixed?!

Just checked and its doing the same thing to me (chrome, android phone). Pictures used to pop up over the thread with a little 'x' in the bottom corner to close them - now they open a separate page and I have to click back to get back to the thread.

I assume this is an intentional update? I think it's bit better tbh, it doesn't add extra clicks as already had to click to close an image, and I often had to scroll down off the screen to get to the 'x' before so this is easier.

Yes, I've been getting this on Chrome too. Together with the everloading page thing that's going on which means I can't refresh threads, it's very annoying!

I've also just spotted that pages are loading using 'Google Lite' today? Got a pop up advising me of this, but I have no idea what this means or whether it is in any way connected. It's just MN that is doing this though.

Mine's always done that.

On Safari I'm getting this when I try to view some photos. Not the ones on this thread, bizarrely.
