Dear Mn

Can we please have a disclaimer like the one at the top of relationships in which you warn people that you haven't checked who anyone is or their qualifications and they should check facts themselves before believing them? It is a well known political tactic to come on forums such as these as a paid shill and people need to be clear about that. I think the last referendum result may well have been different if people were more aware of this. Though I don't claim to be anything other than a hard remainer you can argue this for both sides. I won't but you could.

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch about this. We do understand where you're coming from, but we think this is could be applied to much on the internet. We leave it up to Mumsnetters to use their discretion when reading threads, and challenge anything they see on the thread they think is untrue. As always, if you think a poster is a troll or a paid shill, do report them to us and we're always happy to look into it.

We hope this answers your question, but do let us know if you need anything else.

OK thanks. I think this is the wrong decision.

I agree mook

I think it was a good idea

Lots of people and dont realise that people are actually paid to spread bullshit in a discussion thread

And i really think its very important in politics type threads where this can make a real difference

As opposed to someone saying dyson hoovers are the mutts nuts and getting paid to do that as a form of advertising ...which is annoying but doesn't necessarily have ramifications for the entire country

Thanks Rufus. The other thing is what are you going to do about the shills? Delete them? Delete their threads? I know the answer to that is 'No' because I've reported a few but in any case some of the comments on the threads are useful, some are even balanced Grin and don't deserve to be deleted. But the fact remains that this happens and it's a very effective persuasive tool too.

Like the people who had only joined yesterday to tell us that May is wonderful?
