Last Day constantly refreshing

OK, I know everyone uses MN differently. I use my laptop and a Chrome browser. Usually I open Talk/Last Day and it brings up a big list of all posts in the last day for all the topics I haven't hidden). So if it is 8am, the list starts with posts up to 8am and I just use the back button to return to the list which doesn't change. For the last couple of days when I use the back button the list has refreshed itself in real time so the posts keep re-jumbling themselves into a new order. Previously I could scroll through the list in order and the post at the top would still be the same as when I opened the list - now if I scroll back to the top of the page there are numerous other posts which have appeared since I opened the site.Has something changed?

Helllooooooo? @MNHQ

Same for active
Very annoying!

Ninninannanoonoo · 22/03/2019 17:13

Glad it's not just me then. It's really ruining my guilty MN browsing as I catch sight of a potentially interesting thread and then it has vanished when I go back from what I was reading. @MNHQ please can you make it stop or at least acknowledge this thread?

Happening to me too. And I agree, it's very irritating.

Ninninannanoonoo · 25/03/2019 13:18

Well despite not having any response from @MNHQ it seems to have gone back to normal today - fingers crossed!

Spoke too soon - it's back to refreshing all the time Angry

Hi there OP,

Sorry for the late response - we're flagging this to our tech team now.

Ninninannanoonoo · 26/03/2019 08:18

Thank you Anya.

Hi there OP,

We're a bit confused here - when you say a "jumbled up order" do you mean just a random order with random times all over the place, or a new order to what you saw before but with everything chronologically in the correct order?

Please could you post a screenshot of the refreshed version of the page OP?

Ninninannanoonoo · 27/03/2019 08:32

Hi Anya - can't do a screenshot at the moment but I'll try and explain....

Usually, if I getup at 0720 and click on "last day" I get a big long list of threads which go in descending time order from 0720 e.g.

AIBU Wedding one 0720
Chat Teapots 0718
Relationships OH not home 0716
Property Lovely house 0715 etc etc

Previously, when I clicked on and read the top one then used the back button the list still looked exactly the same so even if I used the back button at 11am the first topic would still be timed at 0720 and nothing new would have been added.

Now, if I read a thread and have my breakfast and feed the cat then use the back button on my browser, the list has refreshed to the exact time I do this - so the top thread is timed 1100 everything below is in time order so all the 7am threads have dropped off the list (unless there are new posts).

Not the end of the world - but if I have a quick scan first thing and think "oooh goody - there are lots of interesting titles there", when I click back they have all been shunted way down by any new posts.

On the plus side, I get a lot more done Grin

Hope the screenshots attach. One is at 0852. I clicked on the tantrum thread to have a look, used the back button and the list had changed to the second screenshot, whereas previously it just would have taken me back to the first screenshot.

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting back to us. It looks to us as though it's now working exactly as it should, and what was going on before was broken. The page should refresh when you click back, but before for some reason it was showing you a cached version of the page.

One way around this is to open the threads you want to look at in a new tab?

Ninninannanoonoo · 27/03/2019 11:08

Thanks Anya - I'll see how it goes today.

I have changed my settings to open threads in a new tab - you learn something new every day!

The page should refresh when you click back it never did that before.

It's very annoying that it does so now because as I click on one thread I'll see another that looks interesting but when I click back to active, the list has changed and the threads are in a different order (because people have added new posts and new threads) so I can't find what I wanted to read.

Ninninannanoonoo · 29/03/2019 12:07

Exactly! It definitely never did that before............and it's still doing it. I took Anya's advice and changed my browser settings so that when you click a thread it opens in a new tab. You just close that when you are finished and your original list is still exactly the same as when you first opened it.

Driving me mad in active too! I like being able to see the whole list of threads and work my way through them. Now I never get near the bottom as it usually keeps refreshing every time I read a threadSad

Acis · 01/04/2019 00:46

No, it isn't. It's worked the way OP described for as long as I can remember, and it was preferable for all the reasons she refers to. It's quite annoying when you're working your way through threads, want to read interesting threads you can see in the list, but they keep disappearing and/or reordering themselves.
