Basic reply and notification settings?

Apologies if this has been asked and covered and whined about before (possibly several times and at length) but I can't find anything in particular and wonder why so asking here.

Is there no way of allowing users to reply directly to a message and / for notifications when someone does reply to you?

With so many threads clocking up hundreds and hundreds of replies it's almost impossible to keep track and up to speed. Unless another uses specifically @mentions you there's no way of being able to realistically follow threads if you're not glued to the boards and watching / reading and refreshing Confused

So frustrating especially when you post on something and then have to come back and traipse through each and every reply just to find an answer if you have one.

Someone recently mentioned finding it frustrating if they ask an OP something and don't get any reply to their question but in fairness, it's so hard to keep tabs and even know you've been asked unless it's a direct @ mention or as I say you are constantly keeping your eye on each topic.

For a website with such a huge number of people using the boards continuously over a 24hr period I'd have thought there would be at least a basic, bare-ass means of "reply to this message" and "notify me if someone replies"

Tech lads and lasses is there no way you can tweak and add a few really basic functions to make it easier to negotiate these very busy and otherwise brilliant boards?

We'll pass this one over to the tech team for consideration, OP. Flowers
