Strikethrough not working on new Ipad

I’ve just got a new iPad (iPad 2018) but can’t seem to make the strikethrough work on it.
Example: —this— is using the symbol on the 2nd level of the keypad and
—this— on the first level, where you ‘pull down’ the key to give you the symbol above it.
Any help with where i’m going wrong please?

As you can see neither of them worked!
