I received an email. Very generic and not clear
Generic? Well, something being sent to close to a million people is hardly going to to be personalised, is it? They wanted us to get it within the next ten years or so...
Not clear? I had no difficulty working out what was being said: "we had a breach, we are trying to find out exactly what happened, when we know any more we will tell you" and an address to contact if you have specific worries.
They have now done the last bit, telling us when they know any more, in the post three up the page.
It's also clear that the people who were actually affected by this , all forty-six of them, have been notified individually as soon as they were identified. The rest of us, quite genuinely, did not and do not have anything to worry about on this occasion.
Except of course that using the internet at all puts everyone at risk of having their details observed by an unauthorised third party -- as does using a mobile phone or satnav, having an Alexa or equivalent, or watching some televisions, or having a GP, bank account, electricity account, vote.... And walking down the street in town gives your image to anyone who has a CCTV trained on that street, so that if they choose to they can broadcast it on the internet for all to see as you fall over on a banana skin, such larks eh.
