New settings menu

Hi all

We've redesigned the settings menu to hopefully make it easier for you to access and change your account settings. Some of the changes include:

  • When changing your username, you can now select from your previous usernames via a drop down.
  • You no longer need to enter your Mumsnet password when changing your username. We did this so people who sign up to Mumsnet via social (e.g Google or Facebook) can change their usernames. Previously they weren't able to, as they don't have a Mumsnet password (they log in to Mumsnet via their Google or Facebook account instead). Also on the Mumsnet app you dont need to enter your password to change your username and we'd like to keep the experience consistent where possible.
  • We've added a new 'Notifications' page. There you can choose whether you can receive direct messages and when you receive notifications by email.
  • We've added links to the 'Talk settings' pages, so you can access them more easily.
  • We've removed the Mumsnet mates feature. It was originally built so you could choose which users saw your 'photo gallery' (if you had one). But the photo gallery feature no longer exists.

What do you think? Could we make it easier for your to change your settings? Is there anything you'd like to see in the settings menu that's not currently there?

We're continuing to make improvements to the menu so we'd really appreciate your feedback.

Name change doesn’t work. I’ve changed my name and it shows in settings as the name I changed it to. But when I post it still uses this name ^^

Email me when someone mentions me on a thread....

On one menu I have it ticked, on another I don't.

I can't wait to see what happens - it's like a lucky dip.

Name change is not working.

As PP said- it showing as accepted but when posting the previous username is there.

Thanks for flagging! We're working on both of those bugs now, will let you know as soon as they're fixed.

Thanks for the heads up. Will have a poke around to see what's happening!

Where is the settings menu on the android app?

RebeccaSMumsnet · 05/02/2019 16:03

Hi @MissMaisiel we've removed the floating toolbar from the settings menu and replaced it with navigation links at the top of the settings menu instead.

But we haven't removed the floating toolbar you can see on threads (when viewing Mumsnet on your mobile). If you can't see the floating toolbar on threads anymore, at the top of this thread please click the little arrow next to >Talk > Site stuff. A menu will appear and you should see a link which says 'Show shortcut buttons' (I've attached a screengrab of the menu).

If you click 'Show shortcut buttons' you should be able to see the floating toolbar on threads again. Please let me know if this works or if you're still having problems?

Hi @Seeline the changes to the settings menu are only on the web version of Mumsnet (not the IOS or Android app)

Both the username change bug and the issue with checkboxes not updating across menus for the 'email me when others mention me' feature have been fixed. Thanks!

Where's the bookmark button and the ability to see all posts on one page?

Motoko · 11/02/2019 16:28

We've added a new 'Notifications' page. There you can choose whether you can receive direct messages and when you receive notifications by email.

@RebeccaSMumsnet I can't find this option. I came here because I've stopped getting notifications since just after the forced log in.

Every other time I've stopped getting notifications, I have not changed any settings, but I'm always asked to check that they're ticked. Now I can't even check.

On my "Settings" page, there are tabs for "Account details", "Password settings", "About you", "Newsletters", and "Mumsnet mates".

No "Notifications", and I've stopped getting any. Oh, and no "Talk settings" either.

Motoko · 13/02/2019 02:51

Hellooo @RebeccaSMumsnet, @MNHQ, please see my post above.

RebeccaSMumsnet · 13/02/2019 09:23

Hi @Motoko sorry for the delay getting back to you. After the data breach last week we reversed some changes we made to the site, including the new settings menu, which is why you can no longer see the options I mentioned above.

When the new menu is live again, I'll post back on this thread to let you all know. Thanks for your patience on this.

Ok, but can you look into why I've stopped getting notifications please RebeccaSMumsnet.
