In-thread ads causing me to (accidentally!) click away

Don't know if anyone else has had this but thought this might be helpful feedback for MN! I've noticed that recently I've started getting quite wide ads mid-thread (using mobile site). I have no issue with seeing ads, but because they are quite wide and because my brain associates ads with the end of a thread, I find myself regularly thinking 'well that's a short thread' and closing the tab. So I'd say these ads are inadvertently causing me to spenn less time on Mumsnet and thus be less likely to engage with any ads!

Has anyone else had this Pavlovian reaction to the in-thread ads, or is it just my pregnancy brain?!

Yes I get this, too! You think you’ve come to the end and then find more thread after the ad! Annoying...

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch, and letting us know about this.

Could you please get us the clickstring to the advert you're talking about? It'll make it easier for us to investigate. You can do this by disconnecting from the internet, clicking on the ad and then copy and pasting the URL to us.

Thanks for the response! I don't think it's a specific ad, more the recent change (?) towards having ads appear in the middle of a thread, between posts, rather than just at the top and bottom. Because ads usually come at the bottom of a page it cues me to think the thread is over so I close the tab...

Hi there OP,

Ah apologies - we misunderstood.

Thanks for letting us know, we are testing some new options for advertising placement at the moment, so we will take this feedback on board.

Thanks Anya!

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with banner ads mid-thread - as they're narrow enough on small screens to see that the thread continues below. But I'm sure I'll get used to the bigger ads if they stick around!
